Nepal...Riding Routes & Must See's?

Hi all, looking for some info from those experienced in the more off the beaten path riding in Nepal. Not necessarily off road, just something other than the standard rides that most do. I am looking for exceptional, out of the way places, particularly in the Eastern Region.

Thanks in advance. Cheers and happy riding!

I've been to Nepal from New Delhi in late 2017 and entered the coutry thru the Bhimdatta border post (the most western one) and the crossing of the river to get to Nepal is quite funny : It's an old british railway bridge that's open one way only. From there I've been riding around Dadheldura district, then off to Dhangadhi, Nepalganj, Lumbini, Tansen, Pokhara, Kathmandu and south back to India.

Everything west of Lumbini is really of the tourist beaten track. I've loved the mountain roads in Dadheldhura district (especially the one going north from the main East-West road called H01). I also loved Tansen and the road between Butwal and Pokhara.
Pokhara not so much... Too much tourists like me :D If you need a break from the Pokhara life, the little guest houses around Begnas lake, just a few kms east from there are awesome places to stay... I wanted to stay one night and ended up staying 5 days chilling on those hills !
If you want to go hiking on riding in some region / natural reserve, you will need a permit. I didn't get the chance to lay hand on a permit to fo riding in the Mustang and really regretted that ... But the permit is expensive and I spent all my money on the clapped out Enfield 500 we rode to get there !

I didn't get east of KTM, so I don't have any advices about that... But in case you end up in western Nepal here you go !

I was there in May 2017. Rented a bike in KTM (TVS Apache and Bajaj Pulsar road bikes which were perfectly fine for the job). Royal Enfield is fine too if you enjoy spannering.

Highly recommend the Annapurna Circuit.

Roads are rough as one thing but go slow and it can be done on any bike you like.

Pokhara to Muktinath and if you can get the permit to carry on into the Upper Mustang do so..it will be worth it, but it's expensive at $500 USD + Guide.

Muktinath to Pokhara and then up the other side of Annapurna to just north of Menang where the road stops. Much less touristy on that side.

You can't complete the whole circuit by road, but can walk the rest of the loop if it takes your fancy and is well worth it (I am told....too fat and unfit to give it a go myself and the air is pretty thin up there).

Also rode up to the friendship bridge at the Chinese border from KTM before it was open (I hear it's open again now) which was an awesome ride.

Photo attached is the Menang side...just a taste for you. Have fun!!

Hello,
I was in Nepal last year riding a Royal Enfield.

The crazyest and off-tourist road i experienced thanks to a nice hotel owners from Charikot is the one leading to Kalinchowk temple.

The temple is build on the top of the mountain at 4000m, and facing some of the highest himalayan peaks. It's accessible by motorcycle on a dirt road . Some snow on the last part but still driveable last year at the beginning of March.

Enjoy !

Bardia National Park way out west, not touristy, great ride getting there and get to see lots of Nepal as quite far from KTM, can also plan different route there and back.
Joe (P.S. been to Pokhara quite a few times but still love it when we get there)
