17,000 feet above sea level during the shortest month of the northern hemisphere winter; I guess you can deduce the rest.

Which base camp do you have in mind?

Hey Alex - I'll be in Nepal next month (December); after shipping my bike over the Himalayas by airfreight - Bangkok→ Kathmandu - in about two weeks' time.

I'll be touring around Nepal until Christmas. If you want to meet-up for a drink in KTM (or elsewhere) then please contact me.

Cheers

Nepal's Himalayan weather seems to be a bit different than Ladakh which is probably closed to vehicles by now. EBC peak trekking season is right about now and I believe goes into January. I think KTM stays fairly mild. In Nepal you can't ride to EBC. Either you fly to Lukla and trek a couple weeks or ride a rough road to a point and trek about 3 weeks. I just posted on another thread about this. It's awesome.

K&E nice to see y'all getting back on the road! Xxoo

There's a fair bit of altitude gain between the lower valleys and the upper reaches of the Himalyas as you can imagine. Get's pretty cold and snowy in the high Himalaya's in December, you'll be limited to the lower elevations for sure.

As Niello points out, the fall trekking season is now (October/November) but last time I was there, we were happy to get out of the mountains by the end of November as the snow started to accumulate up high. Passes get snowed in and the seasonal herders and settlements retreat back down the valley for the winter.

That mostly impacts the trekkers and climbers rather than riders though the rideable roads into the mountains don't get up that high. The end of the road takes you only to Jiri or somewhere around there if you are looking at heading up toward the park.

Jiri! that was the name of the town at the end of the road. And I meant to say trekking goes in to December but my experience coincided with mountain man. We descended in late november and the snows were just starting to come in. So beautiful! there is also another trekking season in April. riding should be ok at the lower altitudes, esp if its dry.

hi guys. thanks for your answering. I do not going to climb or trek to the EBC. I ride my africa twin and I would like to know about a roads condition during the end of Nowember and early December. It looks like I`ve to be in hurry.

Northeastern states (and Bhutan) are also fine in December...It was bit misty in Sikkim, teeny bit of show in the mountains in Bhutan but nothing to worry about.

In Nepal a nice ride you can do up north is to Last Resort near the chinese border. Its a day trip from KTM & weather should be fine. you can jump off a bridge there if you are into that:) but otherwise its a nice place to visit.

In Nepal a delightful ride you can do up north is to Last Resort close to the chinese fringe. Its a day excursion from Ktm & climate ought to be fine. you can hop off a scaffold there in the event that you are into that however any other way its an excellent place to visit.
