Lifting Of Trade Sanctions In Iran

Hi All,

These comments are made in hope rather than expectation:

Our month in Iran in 2011-12 was definitely one of the overland highlights of our travelling to date. We would love to drive back down to Oman via Turkey and Iran and spend a 'Winter In Arabia'. Unfortunately,we have no intention of travelling through Iran with a guide in the car.It is a fab place full of fab people and to do so would be massively detracting from other experiences. Also, we currently would not want to dash through in 6 days or so knowing what we were missing!

We would encourage all nationalities who can travel there without a guide to do so and in the meantime hope that comments like these get back to whoever made up the current restrictions on Brits,Americans,et al and think about changing them back so that Iran can benefit from our tourist dollars and positive attitudes.

The USA imposed some form of sanctions on Iran within 24 hours of the announcement of the lifting of the wider sanctions concerned with the nuclear issues.
This time it is for the testing of a ballistic missile.

I suspect it will be a case of "no change" for those using "Anglo Saxon" passports

Iran does not need our tourist dollars in any case: they are about to start pumping oil at prodigous rates in their own standoff with Saudi Arabia/OPEC.

They do have a goal to increase tourism though, they have plans to bring in 20 million tourists annually by 2025.

Good for them.
Perhaps they are aiming for purpose built resorts with seaside hotels and private beaches - the kind of place where wrist bands are issued to drink.

Hopefully not, but while the new sanctions are in place, my guess is that guides will be needed for certain nationalities who want to travel independantly.
That's how I would play the diplomacy if I was Iranian.

My wife and I will, later this year. Probably partly during Ramadan. Looking forward to the experience very much. So much that we will be spending the extra 2 weeks that we ended up adding to our trip mostly inside Iran.

I can only hope that US, CA and UK citizens will be able to enjoy travelling there freely as well some time soon. But I would not hold my breath. :(
