Indian visa for UK passport holders and some hotels no longer accepting foreigners

Have any UK passport holders obtained an Indian visa in the past few months while in the UK? From what I can gather unlike many other nationalities Brits cannot apply for Evisas and have to go to one of their offices after submitting an application on-line, can anyone confirm this?

What I have also noticed is many hotels no longer admitting foreigners, noticeably some or all of those on the OYO app which I have found useful in the past, I know there has always been more paperwork, photoscopies of passport, visa etc. in registering at Indian hotels but did read something about a new system they have to sign up to for on-line registration of foreign guests, does anyone have on the ground experience of this and is it a problem?

I have my visa application appointment in a few days but haven't had any trouble booking hotels using booking.com.

Thanks Steve,
I have tried hotels.com a few times in India and every time the hotel denied having a booking for me, each time I noticed their posted price was a lot more than I had paid, I never had that problem with OYO.
I would be interested to hear how you get on, I was hoping to get a 12 month multiple entry which I had last time.

Mark,
I lived there for 2 yrs and in my experience multi entry visas are now only available to business travellers
I cannot comment on the hotel situation other than to say that if you start in an five star joint, onward bookings should not be a problem

Hotels in India.

Hello Mark.
Starting in Nepal I have been riding down the east coast for the last couple of months. I have used Booking.com most of the time, in small towns I just find a hotel by looking on google maps I have had no problem whatsoever my budget is 2/3 star.
Michael.

Can I ask where you got your visa? Due to the fiasco with Indian visas in the UK I am now flying to Kathmandu and will try there and if I cannot get one there will fly on to Thailand.

I have just spoken to a friend who managed to get one in the UK after using an agency and having to make a last minute trip to Hounslow to get it and she got a 12 month multiple entry tourist visa so they are available but appointments are not, see above post for my plans.

Hello Mark.
I got my Visa in Kathmandu I am traveling on an Australian Passport.
I went to the Indian embassy there and applied. I was doing a land border crossing on my motorcycle so I couldn’t get an E Visa as they only work at airport points of entry. My motorcycle was already in Kathmandu I left it there April 2020 because of Covid.
So I had to fill out the application form online then print it out and take it to the embassy and submit my application. I was told I would get a call in 7/10 days which I did and was given a date for an interview,so I had requested a 12 month visa and at the interview was granted a 3 month Visa. So my plan is to return to Oz for Xmas and then apply for another Visa and return to my motorcycle which will is now in India. As a result of Covid everything is now more complicated but becoming less so as time goes by.
