Indian evisas now restored for UK passport holders
 

Whatever the diplomatic spat was between the UK and India regarding evisas seems to have been resolved and UK passport holders can now apply for them without visiting one of their offices, if you could get an appointment.
Several people on the Tripadvisor forum say they have their visas granted in a timely fashion so the system seems to be up and running.
These visas only allow entry through certain airports and are not valid for land entry so if you are travelling overland you still need an old fashioned one but good news for some of us.
