India Enfield Ladakh/Kashmir Tours

Hi all,

I am looking at doing a 10-14 or 21 day enfield tour of Ladadh and Kashmir and wondered if anyone had any recommedations? The Manali-leh highest road route appeals to me.

I have researched quite a few companies and found some HUGE differences not surprisingly between the overseas companies and the local indian owned organisations.

I would prefer to go with a local operator and am used to roughing it and experienced offroader. I have been to India twice as a backpacker.

I have a list below of companies that are more conjusive to my budget however would welcome any recommendations from folks who have been there and done it.

Indianmotorcycletours
classic bike india
extremeridetours
royalbikeriders
freespirit
nomad.

thanks for reading

India tours

I did a tour of the high Himalayas in 2009 with the company advertising on this site 'Asia Bike Tours'
Small group, Good! Organised but not overly so, Good! All inclusive price, fuel etc paid for ,Good!
As you Know and Have experience of India, you know that any 'plan' needs to be flexible, this lot who organised this tour seem Ok to me and I would travel with them again.
I did see on the route some er 'enduro' groups that consisted of at least 30 riders a luggage truck a Jeep a further Medic Jeep, 3 Medic outriders etc etc. Ok the guys were having fun but a bit on the huge package hols style for me.
I prefer the smaller do as you please unhurried tour.
Have fun whatever you chose.
Best wishes H

Northern India

I have taken a tour with Anu from near Manali and can recommend him highly. He takes very good care of his bikes and the second time back there I just rented a bike from him for a month. He has very good rates and gives you spare parts to take along. His web site is Bike Tours in India, Himalaya Guided motorcycle tour, Bike Tours in Himalaya, motorcycle tour ladakh, motorbike adventures india, Royal enfield mountain ride, north india motorcycle touring

hey there, as you mentioned you have een to india twice.. i think if u would love some adventures, why dont you ride solo ? As this is a REAL busy route and you always have a lott of fellow bikers riding along and its a preety interesting to meet all these different riders from different corners of the world. i mean ven if u hang out for a few days in manali you'll meet a lott of bikers going up that way and you can always join. actually people want to make a group and ride together if u know wht i mean. on the other hand if you do a organized tour its like you are just riding you ass off. its like u reach a destination overnight and next day start riding. i mean there's no point.. u came to enjoy not just ride ride.. in a way theres no freedom when ur doing an organized tour..
i do ths tour 3-5 times every year ( love it ) and always meet lotts of intresting people on the way. and its just one road so u wont get lost either :-)
let me know wht you think...
cheers man .

I hear ya

Thanks man I hear ya...I guess as I will only have a few weeks and I'm useless at mechanics i thought this would be an easier option ...I do like riding for hours though :)

The tours are pretty pricey even the local operators are around Euros 2300!!

I'm looking at the start of July prob 2nd or 3rd or could go mid July from 17/18th . Do you know any reliable rental motorbike company's in manilli that would let you drop off in srinager? any rates etc would be appreciated and any stops/hotels and an idea of costs to do it yourself..ideally an enfield with gearshift on the left as I know some have them..be good to also ride with a few people...thanks again
