I wouldn't hope for anything "unguided" in Tibet. ;)

Just for clarity: It's not clear that you recognize the existence of two (2) Everest Base Camps, one in Tibet and the other in Nepal. Unguided is not an option on the Tibet side, but AFAIK you can drive fairly close with your (stunningly expensive) guide. On the Nepal side there is a very long walk involved, although there are apparently helicopter options which shave many days off the walk if you can manage the altitude.

Caveat: I've never personally visited either. I'm trying to answer your questions based on general background knowledge. Hope that's helpful.

I have been to both. You walk to the Nepal EBC over about a week unless you have the dollars for a helicopter (but where is the fun in that). You can drive to the Tibet EBC (as I did last year) but you can only get to the actual EBC if you have a climbing permit (or some dollars to lubricate the way forward). The Tibet EBC has much better views of Everest at the head of the valley and the road there is an incredible drive through the mountains on a fully paved switch-back highway. The Nepal EBC on foot is much more rewarding although these days (I was last there in 2003) I am told that again you cannot enter the actual EBC unless you are a climber.
