Has anyone taken a black and yellow plate bike out of Goa?

I'm planning to fly into Goa at the beginning of December and rent (possibly buy) an Enfield to ride down to Kerala. I've searched around a bit but I keep getting conflicting reports on whether or not I'll be able to take a bike registered in Goa outside the state. Has anyone done/tried this recently? Also, I've heard Bonny and Sonny Motors is a reputable place to buy/rent in Goa but I haven't seen any recent posts about them, are they still around?

Sorry, I canĀ“t really answer your question..... But I do remember, that crossing from Goa to Karnataka, there was a checkpoint, where we got more troubles from the police than usually in India, and it took us maybe close to an hour to get through. Seemed to be corrupt as well, the truck drivers gave some small notes of rupees to the officials discreetly.
But I had an EU-plated bike from Europe, rented bike will be a different case. Also note, that this was in December 2007.

Hey ativerson,

A friend was making a presentation once one the topic "Travelling India on a Motorcycle". I remember pretty well his story. He and his girlfriend rented 2 bikes in Goa. It was illegal to cross out Goa with a rented bike, he said. There was a check-point where there were policemen with sticks. What they did is to speed up and pass through the check point without even stopping! They said "The police is trying to hit you and you can fall. There are also some plastic cups on the ground. But if you drive carefully and speed up enough, you'll be fine". This is what they did and went to Kerala. No further troubles for them. The police forgets you immediately after you cross the border (in that illegal but often practiced technique)

But what's for sure is that it's illegal to take a rented bike out of Goa.

Good luck and be careful! :)

Edit: they were going south to Kerala and Karnataka
