Garmin 595 Maps for Sop Ruak - Golden Triangle & Vietnam Cambodia

I’m travelling to South East Asian in the new year and intend on riding Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. It’s not really my plan to do much off-road back country riding (recognizing of course that not every road is clean clear asphalt). I have a Garmin 595LM and have bought the City Navigator for Southeast Asia. Reading through various forums it sounds like the Garmin map option for south East Asia is not very useful. To be fair, some of the posts were a couple of years old. There were numerous references to purchasing SE Asia maps once your in Thailand or Malaysia but only from a Garmin authorized dealer and those will provide more accurate maps as long as you have the SE Asia maps already loaded on the unit. I understand open source maps are also an option but I’d appreciate some input on people’s experience with the Garmin maps. :rain:

Hi
We have a Garmin satnav which we used through Europe but then someone told us about Maps.me and we have used that ever since and found it to be excellent. It is free, once you have downloaded the App you then download the maps you require, once downloaded you can use them off line. You can use it as a Sat nav putting in a route, a voice will tell you when to turn left etc if you want that. We find it excellent and have used it all across Asia, including Indonesia, Laos and Cambodia, then Australia and New Zealand. It has tracks as well as tarred roads, also shops, fuel etc. Walking paths are also on it. The only thing we miss is contours so you can’t tell whether the road goes up and down, but it will tell you the height at a particular location.
Hope that helps

I think Maps.me uses OpenStreetMap for its maps.

Maps.me uses data from Open Street Maps.

Open Street Map data is avalible for use in Garmin GPSes ..
See http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...eet-maps-64135 for one source and Hub guidance on how to use it.

That should get you the same data .. it will not be the exact same colours and interface.
