Hmmmm, the Carnet might be a problem simply with cost....I dont know about you Eric but I will not be returning to India with my motorcycle. That means I would have to pay the Rs. 15,000 fee for the carnet plus would lose the deposit money. I could under-exaggerate the value of my bike but Im sure only to a certain extent before they got suspicious. If I convince them my bike is only worth Rs. 40,000, then I would lose a total of almost Rs. 100,000 on fees and deposits. Wish there was some way to get a "One-way" carnet. I think a fake CDP with a backup plan of a healthy dose of baksheesh might be the best option.

On another note...if any readers of this are also interested in doing the Pakistan to Kyrgyzstan trip in early May 2014 please message me, I am interested in putting a group together to reduce costs and have already inquired with some agents in China about prices.

hey momo034!

I know that the option with legal carnets will be expensive... I'm waiting an email from FIIA regarding the value of an Enfield 1987 model. As soon as I will know that data a will post it here...

I have a second option... One friend af mine has a contact in Mumbai who can manage to get "low cost carnets" i.e. low security deposit. I will explore that option once the FIIA tell me the value of the bike :oops2:

The third option will be a fake CDP as you say.

I'll keep you updated... What about visas and other paperwork for Kyrgyzstan and other Stans?

Kyrgyzstan recently went visa free for many nationalities. Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan & Tajikistan can be gotten from consulates. Russia is tough FYI. A business visa gives more flexibility.

eric_b_m 4 Dec 2013 14:36

Updates soon on it!!! Uselessbaba don't drink yet, you will have to pay the round!!! Don't be "waterparties" (agua fiestas)

Uselessbaba 10 Dec 2013 12:38

In 35 years of riding bikes around the sub-continent I have only ever met one person who managed to get a CDP of the WIAA, and he was an Indian friend from Madras, who took his bullet over to Sri Lanka the other year, when the ferry was running.
I wish you luck,
beer
and look forward to your 'update' with interest !
UB.

eric_b_m 10 Dec 2013 15:00

by the way, can you share the contact of your friend from Madras?

Thanks!

Uselessbaba 17 Dec 2013 15:37

Unfortunately I don't have a contact for him, I only know how to find him.
Still not heard back from the WIAA ?
UB.
