Extension of Carnet for stuck travellers in India
 

This has been posted on the Overlanding Asia Facebook Group on 23 February (it is actually not the extension of the Carnet de Passage itself as it might seem from the thread title but of the permit to stay with this Carnet in India for a longer period):

Are there still people in this group who have a foreign vehicle in India on a Carnet de Passage and who are not yet in the Whatsapp group ‘Unexpected India 2020’? We are in contact with FIAA India and customs may give another 6 months extension. But FIAA must provide a complete list to whom and which vehicles this applies, within 2 days. So if you have a vehicle on Carnet de passage in India and you are not yet in the whatsapp group send a message.

If there is anyone around on the HUBB, please let me know and I will forward the message.

To prevent confusion. This is NOT an extension of your carnet de passage (you must arrange this with your own carnet de passage authority). But an extension of Customs India that the vehicle may stay longer in India. Normally, a vehicle on a Carnet is only allowed to stay in India for 6 months a year. You must provide a valid Carnet de Passage yourself. People often misunderstand this. But you must have a valid Carnet de Passage AND permission from customs for India, you need both in India.
