Decent Mechanic in Northern India

Hi there,

I'm in Northern India at the moment (McLeod Ganj near Dharamasala) and will be heading in a generally southerly direction towards Chandigarh and then down to Agra and Delhi. I'm having a few problems with (possibly with the fuel/air mix, the fuel pump or the fuel filter, although I'm not too sure exactly) with my bike (a BMW R1150 GS Adventure) and while not really being too much of an issue at the moment I would like a decent mechanic to take a look if I could. If anyone has the details of anyone that they could recommend somewhere vaguley in the area I'm travelling then that'd be great.

I have the details of someone in Bombay who could help and so if no-one has anything then that's OK as I can wait until then, but in the meantime any thoughts would be gratefully received!

Cheers,

Peter

Hi Peter,

Vijay Parmar may be able to help you out. He runs a fantastic workshop in Shimla (not too far from Chandigargh if I remember correctly), and he also runs the Raid-de-Himalyia. I can't remember the name of the workshop (its on a sticker on the fork leg of my Twin, but thats in the UK and I'm not!) Is something like MotoSprint.

Try mailing; info@raid-de-himalaya.com

First step ...
change the fuel filter. They are consumables like oil filters ... I take a spare where ever I go.

I take this as be intermittant .. note the exact circumstances of when it occurs.. tank fuel level, engine cold/hot, bumpy roads, rev counter dies but motor still going via gear box, for example.

Could be anything without a good description of what and how .. maybe with some further testing ..

Mech in Delhi.

You could contact KRP

They should be able to sort out your problems.

Thanks for the posts. Managed to sort out the problem in the end - seemed that the throttle cable had slightly slipped out the cradle it sits in when it goes into the engine and that was making the bike idle very high and run incredibly roughly. Anyway all sorted. Now I just need to find someone in Goa who can change (and balance - this is proving to be the difficult thing to do!!) my tyres!!
Cheers,
Peter

Not easy

Thats a real problem.

I've tried to get that done in Mumbai, but to no avail. Though almost all major tyre dealers can balance the alloys used in cars, nobody I know is prepared to do the same for bike wheels.:(

Some smarties *do* balancing (and try to keep you from seeing the "equipment"), but this is static balancing.
