Crossing Myanmar in december, who's in?
 

Hello,
My wife and I are on a RTW trip, we are currently driving across China. We are discussing with travel agencies in Myanmar to cross the country from India to Thailand. We would like to be at the Indian/Myanmar border around december, 8th and plan to cross the country in 10 days.
Is anyone interested in joining us to share the police escort price?

Interested to know how you are arranging the Myanmar crossing? I'm getting no response at all from the official Myanmar tourist agency. We are thinking about crossing from Thailand to India next year.

My husband and I are currently in Nepal and we are very interested in crossing Myanmar from India to Thailand and your dates look good to us. We had been in touch with an agency back in August to arrange a trip from Thailand to India, but it fell through in the end due to the Indian borders closing. Do you know if they have reopened?

Which company are you using in Myanmar. We are parked in Nepal entering India on a 6 month multi entry visa early December.

Looking at a 14 or 21 day Myanmar tour returning back to India around end of Feb.

Any suggestions, contacts?

Can you also tell me what company you a have used.
The cost of the travel (as I think I may have to arrange in the same way as you have and look for others to join me)

What documents do you have to submit to the travel company before arriving at the boarder?

Crossing Myanmar/Burma March 2014

Some agencies are organizing the trip to cross Myanmar but is really expensive.
I know about one german guy organizing a 14 days tour the 20 of februray, it cost 2000 euros. I have heard about one group crossing the 5th of february 2014 but I am not sure.
Just right now one friend of mine is crossing in 3 night and 4 days (crazy) wit a small group, he organized this group with a good contact that he have in Myanmar providing escort, permits, hotels and food with a real cheap price.
I am in contact with him and I am trying to organize also a small group for the end of february beginning of march. The cost will be 1000 DOLLARS p/p for 7 nights with all included and sleeping half of the nights in our vehicles. If there are more people the cost can decrease untill 600 DOLLARS p/p.
Right know we are in India (Chennai) with a James Cook 1979 coming from Spain if someone is interested to cross Myanmar with a real cheap price please contact us, our web is somnisbus.wordpress.com

We are still very keen on crossing Myanmar. We had originally hoped to do so around this time, but of course our plans have changed.

We are now interested to do the crossing from India to Thailand at the beginning of Feb 2014. Our Indian visas expire on the 4th... so we need to get through beforehand :)

Crossing myanmar 2014
 

Hello! we are planning to cross Myanmar between February and March, we have a safe contact and thanks to him one group is crossing now (we are waiting for the report from our friend in the group) and another will cross early February. The cost with this guy can be around 1000 dollars including food and hotels (sleeping half night in the vehicles) and all the permissions with escort.
Prices are per vehicle for 5/6 days it can decrease depending on the number of participants. Anyone interested?

Myanmar – Ride organised across Burma from Thailand to India – 11 Feb 14

I am presently riding my Triumph Tiger 800XC around the World, and have so far completed N America, Australia & NZ, East Timor, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand.

Not wanting to fly my bike now I am back on dry land, I have finally managed to organise a reliable tour guide, leading car and a supervisor from the Ministry of Hotels & Tourism to take me across Burma from Myawaddy to Tamu.

However, the only problem is the price, and to reduce it I need to find at least 4 other riders to do it with me. If you are interested, please read on!

1. Price will be $1,674 USD per person (minimum 5 riders), paid cash on arrival into Burma. This will include everything except for fuel. It will include permission & royalty fees to the Ministry of Tourism, leading escort car fees, all accommodation & catering fees (breakfast, lunch, dinner and tea breaks), third party liability insurance, temporary importation & driving licence fees, tour guide and entrance for all sightseeing tours. I’m aware there are people offering cheaper trips, but I know this guy has been successful and I think the trip sounds awesome.

2. Tour will last 9 days/ 8 nights and include major tourist attractions along the way. Itinerary below:

D-1, Myawaddy to Kyaiktiyo Pagoda (well-known Buddhist pilgrimage site with a gravity-defying granite boulder covered with gold leaves, precariously perched on a ‘strand of the Buddha's hair’). Leg is 270 km (30 km of poor roads), ride time approx 7 to 8 hours. Night in mountain top hotel.

D-2, Kyaiktiyo Pagoda to Taungoo. Leg is 280km, roads are good, ride time 6 to 7 hrs. Night in hotel.

D-3, Taungoo to Mandalay. Leg is 370 km, roads are good, ride time 8hrs. Night in hotel.

D-4, Mandalay – full day sightseeing tour (includes mini bus for the whole day). Night in hotel.

D-5, Mandalay to Bagan (ancient city of 11 AD, full of things to be seen). Evening sightseeing tour. Night in hotel.

D-6, Bagan - full day sightseeing tour on ‘e-motorbikes’. Night in hotel.

D-7, Bagan to Monywa. Leg is 120 kms, ride time 2.5 hrs. Evening sightseeing tour to the highest Buddha statue in the world. Night in hotel.

D-8, Monywa to Kale. Leg is 230 kms (80 km poor roads), ride time up to 10 hrs. Night in hotel.

D-9, Kale to Tamu. Leg is 160 km, good roads, ride time 3.5 hrs. Cross Indian border into Moreh.

3. Not many people have successfully travelled across Burma from Thailand into India, so we will be making history! (kind of…)

4. All ride times are conservative & will of course depend on us!

5. A Carnet de Passage is not required in Thailand or Burma, but it is essential in India. Third Party Insurance is also compulsory in India (contact Western Indian Automobile Association WIAA-Motor Insurance ). For those without their own bike an option could be to buy a cheap one in Thailand or Malaysia and leave it at the Indian border (maybe sell it?), unless you can get a Carnet for it.

6. My contact successfully recently led the group of Thais across and a couple of car convoys. He will meet us at Myawaddy and has contacts on the Indian border to aid our crossing. Relaxations in travel across Manipur and Nagaland (India) mean we can ride straight in on arrival.

7. Car drivers are also welcome – the more the merrier!

8. Aimed start date into Myawaddy from Mae Sot is 11 Feb. We could all meet in Chiang Mai around 9 Feb.

When did it become possible for a foreigner to cross from India to Burma or vice versa? I did just see this Blog of a couple that crossed from Inda to Burma via Bhutan, but they may have had a special Visa as they live in Yangon...

It appears it is still everything but easy... but for about a year now, there have been reports of several travellers doing this succesfully, and some have even crossed entire Burma from India to Thailand. (getting permits HAD been a very long and troublesome project for every one of them, though, and looks like it cost some money, too).

Our member here Cardopostale who has been posting earlier in this thread have done it and have posted a long and very well explained report from him and his wives crossing. Just one side back in this forum.... ;-)
