Crossing Myanmar/Burma from India to Thailand ~ October / November 2015

Hey everyone,

Here is the deal. My name's Florian, and I am a 23 years old motorcycle rider, getting ready for a huge journey from France to Indonesia for charity.

I will be trying to cross Myanmar from India all the way to Thailand by the end of the year, but it seems that you need some guides to get all the paperwork done and you can only do it by groups of 8 people minimum.

Is anyone thinking of crossing the country around October / November 2015 ?

Or can anyone share more information about the procedure, and whether or not there is a way to do this solo without having to pay an incredible amount of money ?

Looking forward for your advice !

Cheers

Florian

Hi Florian,

I am currently looking for a way to cross Myanmar around that time, but more likely November 2015. I would be interested in sharing the (afaik mandatory) tour guide.

Hey,

Yes I will be crossing with your group, I just need a bit of time to confirm, as I have plenty of things to think about beforehand !

Atta, I am planning to leave by the end of June.

I'm based close to Switzerland, right at the border, on the French side. My motorcycle is being serviced in Villeurbanne at the moment, right next to Lyon.

Hi Florian and Sinky,

just considering options... how many people are in your group for the oct 15 crossing? Could you accept one more group member? I am unsure if I can make it, I am currently shifting the legs of my trip to figure it out...

@Florian: I leave Austria end of july, one month later then you.

cheers, -Martin

I am in need for the same information. I look forward to cross Myanmar in next couple of months. There is a travel company named Seven Diamonds who can help with bicycles but not motorbikes. So, any information would be really appreciated. I am sure, I will not be the first person to cross India-Myanmar border.

Your group crossing from India via Burma to Thailand – could you please give some kind of "ballpark figure" at the quoted cost PER HEAD, that you are looking at? (And how many people are there in your group)?

There is a group of four riders from Finland, who are looking at this same thing, they´ll be starting from Europe mid-August, and now pondering the option to go via China instead of India&Burma, the cost of crossing Burma is naturally an important consideration, this is why I´m asking.

entering Myanmar around Oct 28th

Hello,

we are an Austrian couple and want to drive with a 4x4 Mercedes Sprinter from Nepal to Thailand. We will enter Myanmar around Oct 28th. We are not in a hurry and want to spend about 14 days in Burma.
Who wants to join us to save cost?

Greetings

I can suggest you some small places in Vietnam.
For example, some great dishes in Hanoi:

2. “Pho Bo” – beef noodle, No 49, Bat Dan str, Hoan Kiem District.
3. “Nem chua ran” – fermented pork roll fried, Tam Thuong, Hang Bong STR.
4. “Noshes Alley” – Ta Hien
5. “Xoi Yen” – kind of over soft cooking rice, Nguyen Huu Huan STR.
6. “Mixing seasonal fruit” – Mrs Hoa, To Tich.
7. “Bun cha” – grilled chopped noodle, Dac Kim restaurant, No 1 Hang Manh str.
8. “Southeast beef noodle” , No 19, Nguyen Thuong Hien str.
9. “La Vong grilled chopped fish”, No 14, La Vong STR.
10. “Miscellaneous bread-street”, No 06, Hoe Nhai STR.
11. “Egg coffee” – one of the most famous coffees in the Wold, Giang Coffee, no 39, Nguyen Huu Huan STR.

And if you all want more detail information as where to go shopping in Vietnam? where to rent cicle? where to change your money? how to save money totally, etc. I am willing to share what ever detail about Vietnam, and Myanmar. :welcome:

I'm on my GS in Kathmandu. Leaving for India around the beginning of Oct. I'd be interested in teaming up for a bit, then do my own thing. Maybe meet up again. Could be cool.
