Hi Harald,

the information regarding Waghan seems to change dynamically. My last information is that overlanders are able to cross. Can you share your source for your information contradicting this?

Thanks,
Benjamin

Thats the german Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the said "The Wagah border crossing to India is generally not passable with German passports" thats the only border....I am not sure this is only for germans or this border is closed to all??

I believe the website of the German MFA could be out of date. But maybe there is someone here who recently tried to cross?

Cheers,
Benjamin

I was looking at the Indian embassy website this morning and that said that entry by land border is not yet possible, which should not stop anyone from trying of course just have a plan B.

WAGAH-border to MUMBAI

I crossed wagah border last week without any problem, applied for the visa in Islamabad. Friendly people both sides.
Changed euros to INR with Pakistani guy at the border, who stamps your carnet, really good rate, better then official. After crossing the border, i had everywhere problems to find an ATM who worked with european visa-card. Even petrol-stations all denied my card. And the toll gates dont accept it at all. Payed about 5000 INR only on toll from border to Mumbai (all cash) and 10000 on petrol, all cash. Found in DHULE first ATM who worked with my card after some help from my hotel, it seems most banks dont accept foreign cards. It was a SBI-ATM which is probably the only bank accepting foreign cards !!
Would have changed more at the border if i had known it before !!
The toll is mostly double charged if you dont have Fast-tag, no idea you can get it on a foreign car, India knowing, it will take 25 pages of paperwork and days of waiting, thats why i didnt even tried it. You can avoid the toll gates, but the traffic is in my eyes bad enough already on the toll-roads, if taking the non-tollroads it will be worse, and losing a lot of time and fuel.
Now in Mumbai trying to ship car to Malaysia . . .

Thanks for the update, this reminds me of the first time I crossed here and bought some Indian Rupees from the Pakistan immigration officer, he asked if I wanted to change my Pakistani money for Indian but I had used it all to fill my tank but asked "how many to the Pound?" and got a very good rate with no messing around.

Hello!

I just stumbled upon this post while doing some research for my own travels from India to Pakistan. I was planning on using this border. Did you manage to cross it after all with a German passport? I was also irritated by what the Auswärtiges Amt says about this border but read different info on different Websites.

Hope your travelling is going well so far and happy to hear from your experience at the border!
All the best,
Luise

I crossed in July with German passport and know a few more who did in July and August. No problem whatsoever.

Cheers
