Bike hire goa and travel out of state etc

Hi everyone , it's been a while since iv been on here , iv trying to plan a taster trip to India , however iv been reading some convicting reprts regarding bike hire and taking a hire bike out of state.

Ideally ly I'd like to hire an Enfield in goa and travel on it for around a month , I have no itinerary set up and want to just roam around for a few weeks , is this able to be done on a hire bike , also I'm thinking of being in goa in april for a month , how much roughly would be a reasonable price to pay to hire a bike for a month , also is it safe to wild camp in India or is is cheap enough to stay in guest houses etc , as always , the cheaper the better for my trip.

I'm an experienced rider having been riding for nearly 30 years through Europe but never in India .

Thanks
Al

Hi al,

I was riding my own bike but I can answer a few questions.

I had no troubles wild camping in India. I was found a couple of times by locals and I got stared at for a while but they were friendly and eventually left. Often the population was so dense that there was just nowhere to wild camp. Local Guest houses were cheap if you looked around a bit - 200 to 300 rupees, but they were pretty basic. 500 or 600 rupees for a cheap hotel with your own bathroom.

The only issue I heard with moving around with a rental bike was getting into some of the valleys around Leh, they want you to have a locally rented bike. That's because they have literally thousands of bikers coming with bikes rented from manali. If you were to ride a little later (around June/July) you could ride up there. I totally recommend it, it was incredibly beautiful and my favorite part of my time there.

Cheers,
Jason

Hi, I would recomend you to renter a Honda or Yamaha Scooter. They are more relyable and will cost around 4 Dollars per day + petrol. To leave Goa and ride all the way down south was no problem at all see: Motorcycle world trip - Dharavi slums in the 18 million city of Mumbai

Its not easy to wild camp in India because everywere there are people or rice fields but we allways found a place. Usuarly i love to camp at local places but they allways wanted to just inform the police that tourists are there and then the police came and chased us away. To dangerous. Onely used Hotels in Mumbai. 10US$ per night for 2 people. In Goa you can rent a nice beach house at the end of your trip for just 5 US$ second row :palm:
