Vancouver Island - Comox Valley/North Island

I'm wondering if anyone is a local in the Comox Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada?

Just moved here last summer and explored mostly in the Tofino/Ucluelet area. Also did some 4x4 adventures near Oyster River and Duncan Bay Main/Forbidden Plateau and have had some moto trips to Myra Falls and Whiskey Creek.

Looking for some fellow riders to socially distance with. I have a couple of trips planned to Tahsis and Cape Scott.

Hello? :)

Welcome to HU!

A quick way to connect with locals is the HU Communities: https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/connect/contact

There's 3 in your area - the island - contact them and see what's up.

Also be sure to browse the dropdown "mega-menus" - there's a ton of info there!

and enjoy cruising the site and especially enjoy Vancouver Island - there's lots there to see.

Cheers!

Huge Courtenay based fan of exploring the island. I spent a good amount of time in the Yukon and Alaska the past 6 years exploring, and it is amazing but the route options are no where near as plentiful as on the island. And BC.

We ride for exploring and often ride n hike in the summer time, the Mt above the KLR is Castle Craig, with Frink to the left and Albert Edward behind, making this a short day hike up one peak or a day long workout for all 3. Great example of back road access rewards as Castle Craig is 11 kms on the Circlet lake route through the park We also have a Surf as a bush beater and base camp on other hikes, good examples are Mt Joan, 5040, and even the Glacier are softened somewhat by waking up trail side for a sunrise start. We do plenty of exploring for the sake of exploring 2, over the long weekend we covered 1000 kms on the north island, checking passes for snow and possible hiking routes.

heading to Van. Island Aug. 1

Hello Kevin, I will be headed your way Aug. 1 if travel permits. I will be with my young son and hoping to rent or swap a bike on Van. Island for a week or so. Any suggestions? I left a message on the Bikes for Rent/Swap part of this site but no luck yet.

I have a BMW 700 GS that is temporarily marooned in Florida till I can get down there and pick it up, as COVID eases.

Also I spent a lot of years in the NWT and Nunavut, also motorcycled to Alaska and Yukon. Two years ago I did the ride to Tuk, great one that was. Besides that I have ridden around Africa, South America, SE Asia, and so on. I had my bike out in Van. Island couple years ago and rode up to Gold River. My brother lives in Campbell River and we want to visit him in August, and do some fishing too. My son is keen on that.

Let me know if you come down to Nova Scotia. Can help out, spare room and all.

cheers
Larry

Hi Larry,

Would be great to get out to NS, I work on contract all over and bring on plenty of guys from your province . There are more than a couple friendly people nearby.

Africa? That's on my bucket list, a continent yet visit. Went to my first Horizons unlimited meeting in Chiang Mai many years ago. Also good to hear that im not the only one who strands a bike some were. Last year my GS spent a month without me in North Dakota, and a WR250 has been stored unused for a year and half now in Whitehorse.

So many great paved and gravel roads on the island. Port Renfrew, out to Tofino, Port Alice road is amazing, and now the road from Gold River to Tahsis is more the half pavement. Only the big hill is all dirt and early this month it was so well graded that there was almost not rattle from the GS. And in August those areas should be welcoming people.

Good luck fishing, get you brother to take you prawning also, it's been a productive year!

Drop me a line when you're passing through! August is busy with work and a wedding that is now happening in my yard, but any chances to ride!

Cheers,
Kevin

If you are looking for motorcycle rentals in Vancouver or Victoria, I've heard some good comments about this place. Looks like they are hoping to have rentals back up and running by then...
