RTW part 2

Hi fellow adventurers,

name’s Marc, I was born in 1969 (the number’s simply too cool not to mention), and I started riding bikes in 1994 (the number isn’t cool in anyway, but pretty essential).

I’d gone through a Kawasaki KLE 500, then a Yamaha TDM 900, a BMW R1200 GS and now ride a BMW GS1200 (K25) – his name is Max and he’s been a loyal travel buddy since 2012.

Until 2004, my rides and my travels were Europe-only and mostly on pavement. Yeah, your typical lazy ass GS rider.

But then I went to Namibia for a 3 week motorcycle tour, and I guess something in my head just clicked: there’s gotta be so much more out there.

And thus in 2013 after much fuss and preparation, I shipped Max to Chile and began my South America journey, planning to ride for about six months. Plan? South America? Yeah, right.

Obviously, South America was beyond amazing; because of that, and because I’d met my girlfriend Ellie there (evergreen on HU), ‘about six months’ became almost a Year and a rather impressive trip together.

When all the farewells to SA were almost due, we’d realized that we’re in big trouble: the virus of two wheel travel had already taken over. The horror, the horror.
So -being pacifists at heart- we’d decided that there’s no point fighting it, and plan to continue rtw this autumn heading for Africa via Asia.

HU has always been a good read for me from time to time, but after going to the HU meet in Germany this spring I’m hoping I can get more involved here.
The meet was awesome with tons of interesting folks and fascinating stories; I got so many great info and tips on Africa, the right equipment (well, assuming there is such a thing as ‘the right equipment’), visas and lots more for which I’m really grateful.

As for advice, the best was probably given by Sjaak Lucassen, the mad motoquero who said – ‘in the end, you have to feel good with your decision, cause that’s all that counts basically’.

That’s how we decided to go to Africa - but just not this year, and do Asia instead (starting next spring). We simply feel like Africa might be biting a bit more then we can chew right now, so here’s to Asia – our feel good destination!

I’m hoping HU will remain this great platform to share and get info.

We will have a website too, which is coming soon.

We’re hoping to get to know more people here and get involved more actively.
And if anyone’s got any good tips on Asia, do share! As we will once we finally leave, which is happening soon.

Cheers,
Marc

:welcome: Marc
I see you have been a 'silent' member for a while, so it is great that you finally taught your fingers to dance around a keyboard
Look forward to hearing more of your travels :thumbup1:
