Hi, all:
I'm a long-time (Read: Old!) motorsickel rider and experienced international traveler who has been bitten by the overlanding bug - I blame my participation in the Cross Egypt Challenge in 2013 for finally getting me to finally get around to doing more endurance-style riding.

This year, I participated in the Central Plateau Scooter Challenge, an event for 50cc machines that raised over NZD $9500 for Wanganui Hospice. I used my TGB Express 50 (see photo) for the 270 km/167 mile event, which I rode to and from home (a total of 912 kms/565 miles) at a blistering 50 kph/31 mph.

Last month, I took my unrestored 1983 Vespa PX200E to Wellington to participate in the Motoretta TT, a four-day, 1000 mile/1600 km on/off-road endurance ride for Old School scoots. Again, I rode it from home, adding another 1100 km/682 miles to the trip, including a wild ride over our high plateau (a.k.a. The Desert Road) in torrential rain and gale-force winds.

There are a couple more 50cc scooter-related events coming up in NZ's South Island in 2016 that I'm keen to do, plus some tarmac-style touring on my VT750 Shadow Aero once winter has finished south of the Equator.

In the meantime, I'm looking at lightweight on/off-road motorbikes that I can take further afield - much further. Being descendant from camel (both Bactrian and Dromedary!) riders means that seat height is a consideration.

Keep those two-wheels a-rolling and experiencing that four-letter word called 'life'.

Nga mihi nui from your humble Beatnik Bedouin :scooter:

:welcome: to the HUBB

I used to have a vespa back in the very early 80's. I was great, had it all customised as was the thing then. Brought back some good memories reading your first post

Welcome. I've toured around NZ a couple of times on a motorcycle: it might well be the best place in the world to ride a motorbike!
