Just joint the ranks - on more levels than one.

As I am sitting here waiting for some temperature above freezing while my new bike is sitting tethered to an electrical lifeline, I am trying to find things to do and see.

I just purchased a new 2014 Honda NC700X DCT. My initial need was a less expensive commuter than my car (Accord V6 VTEC). I have never ridden before, so I wanted something that was going to be easy to pick up and learn pretty much off the bat. I asked around to a lot of friends who owned motorcycles what they would honestly recommend to a brand new rider. Of course, being who they are, they recommended their own bikes. I know, not a lot of help. A couple of them pointed me to a new bike rather than used. Their reasons were I would not be inheriting any issues from the previous owners. Also, since I am not a mechanic, I would not have to put money in the bike right away for it to be safe and ride-able. Then it was suggested I look into Honda's DCT (automatic) motorcycles. They said I could learn the roads and how to ride without the added job of learning a new shifting system. All thoughts could be on the road.

I must have spent days reading, watching videos or reviews (pro and con) on the different automatic transmission bikes. I even went and looked at the new Polaris 3-wheel bike as well as the Can-Am Spider. When I sat on the NC700, however, it felt the best. I got it home with the help of a friend and his truck. And that day, put the first 13 miles on it. I had a blast. Put more on it a couple days later (not gonna try running in the rain just yet). However, since then the temps have been so cold I dont even want to go outside. So I am here, reading about trips, getting tips on turning and cornering, studying for the permit and booking my MSC class.

I have added 3 things to my bike. A GoPro mount on the front, a phone mount (cheaper than buying new GPS) and a drink holder with a water bottle with a long straw. The drink holder wont be for every day use...

Anyway, wanted to say hey and I look forward to trying to get out and get to an event. Dont know if I will be ready for the Virginia event so soon. 489 miles is a long drive and I dont even know if I will have the thing broken in. I plan on having that done before April, but we will see how the comfort level is.
