Hi HUer´s

I am actually living in Spain and I am planning to travel to Mongolia this summer.

I don't know which route because at this time I don't have any VISA, so I am a little bit in a hurry with that. What I would like to do is travel via istans then Russia and finally Mongolia and coming back again but this time via Russia and Ukraine.

And I would like to do on my Honda XR650R, but I am not pretty sure if it could support the extra weight on the back side. I also have a Yamaha XTZ750, that maybe could do the work faster, but is not mi idea to use it.

Any advice on this adventure will be very appreciated bier

Lot of fun for you HU'ers

Many people have ridden to Mongolia on all sorts of bikes and there is no ideal model, just personal preference. Decide what sort of trip you want, how you will cope if it all goes wrong,( injury, repairs etc) and then take it from there. For me, a lighter bike and less stuff worked. The roads in Mongolia AND Kazakhstan are every bit as appalling as everybody says and you will fall off/drop your bike, bend it, bash it etc, however good a rider you are. It was a blessing for me too when I fell off and broke my wrist - i was able to keep going which I don't think i would have been able to do on a meatier bike with more gear.

Thanks for your reply, fortunately I am a good off-roader, and have a lot of experience travelling off-road (Morocco, Portugal, Spain, etc), in fact I feel more comfortable going off-road that on road, so I think that I could manage that nasty roads, of course I know that I will fall lot of times, thats not the important part, the only that it is important is how many times do you get up after you fall :thumbup1:.

That is the main reason to pickup the Honda XR instead of the Yamaha XTZ750. My only fear about the XR is the weight that can support on this travel and conditions. I suppose that I have to review very well, what are the "must" things that I have to carry, and after that think about the decision.

Anyway, thanks for your help bier
