Hi from Germany
Hi from Germany (near Hamburg).
New to biking - and did my test last autumn. Planning a trip solo to the Nordkapp and then returning via Finland, Sweden, Baltic States and Poland next June. Looks like a really useful site, lots of good information, etc. Oh, I'm a Scotsman in exile here. SWMBO is German. Grey Beard |
Welcome and Happy travels!
I would recommend to go to Norway on the way. Incredibly beautiful and nice MC roads. Cheers from Sweden |
Welcome Grey Beard, from a misplaced Yank in Frankfurt.

Thanks Ronnie 79 & lhelmich.
Yes the plan is to go north from Hamburg to Hirtshals and to Christiansand, Take in some missed sites (Kjeragbolten in Lysefjord) and via Geiranger Fjord again (truly beautiful), Trollsteigen, Trondheim and Lofoten Islands up to the Nordkapp. Will walk to the Nordkapp proper, not going to go to the tourist trap centre. May also do the walk from Mehamn (2 days in and out) and hopefully a walk in Reisa National Park 50km through walk, two days, but I am not sure about return transport from the other end and am having little success in getting a response from the Reisa National Park Tourist Office - patience my boy! Then up to the Russian Border at Kirkenes for a look, then head into Sweden/Finland, Probably get eaten alive by mosquitoes, even if it isn't quite the worst time of year for them! I was in Norway as far north as Alesund with the SWMBO late August/early September this year and I was impressed with the scenery and friendliness of the Norwegians. Weather was a bit naff and my wife doesn't like the cold, though we were in a motor home, so the rain was less of an issue. Useful to learn the lie of the land, etc. Grey Beard |
Sounds like a great trip!

Welcome to the HUBB Grey Beard.
Are you going to join German meeting next weekend? It is close to Mannheim Horizons Unlimited Motorcycle Travellers' Meeting, Germany Autumn 2011 |

I noticed there was a meeting, but my wife is dragging me up to Flensburg to see our son, who is in the Marine School there (officer training). He is grounded for speeding, so he won't be driving down to Hamburg for the next few weekends :oops2: Mannheim is a bit of a hike from Hamburg, but I will watch out for the next meetings of the group. Looks like fun. Grey Beard |
Hi Grey Beard,
I was in sweden earlier this year and loved it, i plan to do a trip much like yours, have a good trip and welcome. Dave |

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, I like Sweden too. Was there with a motor home in June 2005. Mrs Beard can't stand the thought of leaving the dog behind, so the motor home allows the whole family to come. It's quite peaceful there, quiet roads and nice lakes. I know bikers complain about endless pine trees and it doesn't have the stunning scenery of Norway's mountains, rivers & fjords, but it has other qualities. Hope your trip goes well Grey Beard |
I think you will be doing the trip before me so i'll keep an eye on your posts for tips on the baltic countries:thumbup1:.
