Hello from the UK

Hi everyone, thanks so much for letting me join this community.
I’m so looking forwards to adding to my travels and experiences on my new bike. After years on big sportsbikes / “muscle” bikes I have decided that it’s time to have some adventures on an Adventure type bike: well it’s more Mother Natures decision than mine (creaky bones / back issues ….)

Welcome along - time passes, and bones end up creaking. The riding position for adventure style bikes is certainly less cramped than sports bikes but you have to accept that you are more likely to be picking the bike up particularly if you go off road (deliberately, not just taking a corner too quickly). However there are techniques on how to pick the bike up more easily on You Tube - for instance this one.

Hi Chris

I was working on the basis that if you have an iffy back now then trying to lift a bike using your back may be something of a big mistake. As I was trained at work - don’t use your back, use the big engines - your thighs - to do the work

That is true - I had totally forgotten about them - good bit of kit by the look of them.

Welcome to HU, you can't go wrong here for most if not all your queries on travel or travel bike info. Sounds like you've got a travel bike already, what did you get...???

I flipped my biking life on it's head like you back in 2006 after selling my Spondon Turbo and buying a GS12adv. If you love farkling and tinkering bikes I'd say ADV bikes will give you more to go at than sports bikes with some added pleasure as a bi product...!!!

Have a look at the bike tech sections here also, loads of Q's & A's if you get stuck...
