Hello everyone. I am an avid motorcycle rider and I have over 140k miles on my Victory Cross Country. I was in Kenya for the past few weeks and the thought crossed my mind to potentially attempt a cross continent motorcycle trip across Africa.

I was thinking of renting a motorcycle in Capetown then traveling north through Kenya then to Tripoli. Then head back south to return to Capetown.

Has anyone attempted this venture before? Any advice?

Plenty of people myself included have done this trip but not the Libyan part recently as it is something of a warzone at the moment. I am also not sure how the rental company will react to your plan so you might be better off buying a bike which I believe is not a problem for foreigners in South Africa, there is a thread here somewhere about the process.
You would also do well to read the thread in trip paperwork about Africa without a carnet de passage to see if you can do the trip without one, apart from that good luck with your planning, it is a great trip.

Agree with Mark, and buying would also be WAY cheaper in the end than renting!
We crossed Libya in 97, and it was great, but sadly definitely not recommended at the moment.
