Guten Tag from Vancouver Island, Canada

My name is Dirk, I'm a helicopter pilot originally from Germany, and currently living and working on Vancouver Island, BC.
I have several motorcycles (a few track bikes, and a Ducati Desert X) and a little work shop at my house in Campbell River, but all that is about to change at the start of 2025: I will be moving to Nepal for a year (or two) for work, and I am planning to take the Desert X with me, and most likely ride it to Europe and beyond at the end of my stay in Nepal. I joined here mainly to talk to others who have experience shipping bikes across the pacific, and have dealt with international import/export hurdles in Asia before. |
Air Canada used to fly bikes pre COVID, but I think only WestJet does it post COVID. A lot less hassle flying in the plane with your bike. Airlines want you and your bike off as quick as possible, you might even be the first off the plane! Alternatively your bike could be on a boat at a port for weeks before it gets unloaded as you wait in a hotel. Or it could get unloaded suddenly before you arrive and now your paying hefty storage fees. The price difference from flying vs shipping in Canada is not that much from what I've heard. It's highly unlikely your bike gets lost or damaged at an airport. I know people who have had bikes damaged and lost being shipped.
I'd definitely look into flying with your bike through Canadian airlines and riding it the rest of the way to your new home. |

Good luck, and keep us posted on how you do. |
