Gday from Antarctica

Hello all,

I've only just found this forum, the likes of which I've been seeking for a while.

I am a diesel mechanic, originally from Tasmania. I've been about a bit, mainly in Land rovers. Though the devotion to the brand is slowly waning and the lure of 2 wheels rather than 4 is a work in progress.

Not to sure where it started, my first big roadtrip was with my father and brother through New Zealand at age 11. Then it was the east coast of Australia at 12, a break for a while. Another family trip from Vancouver Island to Calgary. I bought my first Landrover while doing my apprenticeship. I worked field service and have travelled most of the roads in Tasmania. My first solo mainland trip was at 18 and I headed across to South Australia. The next couple of years was spent building up an overland vehicle, which at the end, I realised had a ridiculous amount of unneeded kit and promptly sold. I went back to a normal car for a while, then started restoring another Landrover from chassis up for the dream round Australia trip.

It took two years, a few distractions. A couple of Africa trips, south coast to Capetown, New Zealand North Island, tag along trip Botswana-Namibia-Capetown. A business, lost a good mate and a few other things. Finally drove it out of the shed, packed my stuff and threw the swag in the back.

6 months later I ended up in the Kimberley, again working field service. There I racked up 50,000km in 10 months on a work ute. Some absolutely spectacular country.

I then managed to snag a job in Antarctica and have been here for the last 12 months. On return I'll give the Landy a birthday, get a motorbike licence and hopefully hit the road again.

The dream as always is the round the world trip. I used to think it would be in my own Landy but the lure of either doing it on a bike or flying out with a bag of clothes and a full bank account is strong. I hope to get to one of the meetups sometime, sadly I won't be back in time for the November Snowy Mountains rendezvous it's a spectacular part of the world

Happy travelling and see you on the road sometime

Welcome Strapper, :welcome:
You are possibly the first and only member from Antarctica although a couple of others have managed to get their bikes over there.
