Horizons Unlimited - The HUBB - For Susan and Grant

Hello Susan & Grant,
Almost twenty years ago. In another life, another time, I had the pleasure to visit with both of you. At the time Susan was working in England. And I clearly remember your place had a biggish (By British Standards) backyard for HU pow wows. A very memorable meeting (for me) before my london to singapore ride. This was a few months before Nine-eleven.

Well that amazing motorcycle journey ended. And it was back to the usual routine - a.k.a life. A few months into starting a family, remember getting Susan's email for HUBB funding, I also remember not contributing then. Excuses galore - new baby, new mortgage, two used cars and the list could go on till the end of time.

Time went by, the motorcycle got sold long ago, a second baby came. Lost all my hair, got grayer and heavier. Never rode and never again owned a motorcycle. All the riding was in the distant past. Both the home equity and my girth were increasing steadily after the recession. That is until last year. Turned fifty and WHAM !! full on mid life crisis. This strange feeling of being dragged past middle age way too fast - commuting in a car to the cubical everyday.

So off i went visiting a friend in Taiwan. He helped me rent a small honda to whizz around the island through the mountains. It was just like the days gone by - riding on unknown roads not knowing where that nights beds going to be at. But this time there was unlimited data coverage on the apple phone and google maps !! "Hotel near me" in the search bar worked wonders. Along with google translate for some chatting with the locals in mandarin in the remotest of the villages. So long story short, here i am back on the forum after two decades. Back into two wheel adventures ... albeit for shorter times and on rented bikes. Next up Kampala to Kigali.
