daf info

anyone know for sure the wieght of an ex mod DAF 45 4x4 as a chassis cab only? how light can I make one by removing the army flat bed, tow hitches, heavy bumpers, etc,. I'm trying to create a chassis cab with 3 ton capacity to take it to 7.5 ton.Surely somebody must have done it and remembered the wieght's. Withams don't know the wieght of the vehicle as a chassis cab! Amazing! Would have thought they'd been asked before. Help! it's sending me mad trying to find out without buying one and taking the body ,etc, of and wieghing it. Bloody expensive mistake @ circa 8 grand if pre wiegh "guesstimates" I keep being offered by the men selling are wrong.:taz: Might I be better with an old MK Bedford?

Afraid I can't help with the minimum possible weight as I built ours with the flatbed still on, and a comms body on the back. All up weight was just over 8 tonnes if I remember aright. But I know a man who will sell you one for around 6k not 8! It's currently registered as private heavy goods ie over 7.5 tonner so you'd have to take it to vosa to down rate it. Have you tried theoverlander.org forum - there're several DAF owners on there, one might know.
Good luck with the search, Simon.

Thankyou Simon. Kind of you to give it your thought. Won't be buying till I know the chassis cab wieght for sure. You 'n yer mates have made a smashing job of that wagon. I'll be pleased if I make half as good a job. Heavy goods licence a no go for me. Part blind in one eye. Never pass the eye test for hgv. Might make my iveco a 5 tonner again, could maybe get a better payload. Good luck.

Thanks. I was pleased with it. Worst thing about the DAF is how dog slow it is. 45mph comfortable is fine on backroads but batting through Europe to get somewhere interesting was just tedious. Even being able to keep up with other trucks would be something. If your Iveco will do this I'd stick with it, even if the DAF does look roughty toughty!

Cheers,
Simon.

Is this link any good? Looks like 6.5 tonnes.... http://www.theoverlander.org/my-whee...45150-4x4.html

Looks like you will need HGV.
