American Family of 3 on RTW Trip

My very first post.

A friend of mine (Dan Grec) said this was by far the very best forum for international travelers he's found and recommended that I check it out.

Confession: We're not bikers. Hope that doesn't disqualify us from getting to know like minded adventurers.

We're an American family of 3 who has been traveling full-time almost 8 years owning no home or property (since February of 2014). Our son joined the party in 2016 (he just turned 5) and has been a full-time traveler since birth.

We are currently on a RTW trip that we anticipate will take 10-15 years total.

We've just started this global journey and are 3+ months into the trip. Currently in Puebla, Mexico as of this writing. This is our 3rd driving trip into Mexico in the past three years, but this time we are continuing south.

Overall plan is Mexico, Central America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia. In that order.

Anyway, I wanted to say hello and hope to learn much from this group and forum.

~ Eric

ps Please forgive me if I did something wrong as this is my first time using this forum and I'm not sure about all of the settings. But glad to be here!

Hi Eric and welcome to you and your family, :welcome:

Nothing wrong with what you have written there, a nice introduction. I have met several families in the past who have been travelling just as you are and they have all found it a great experience, perhaps the most notable are the Zapp family from Argentina who are going RTW in a 1928 vintage car and I met in India a few years ago.
Hopefully whatever you need to know there will be someone here who can help.

Welcome Eric and family - sounds like an epic trip. I look forward to hearing more of your travels. Cheers, Andy

I bet you have as much to contribute as you will take away. Travelling full time with a child (born on the road even), and for such an extended time - it will inspire many! As for means of transportation, this forum has seen it all - none are discriminated against, all are welcomed into the HU family. In fact, there are people on here that are years away from doing their next trip, or even their first - and they are just as welcome.

I'm looking forward to follow your journey.

On a final note - your source was correct in saying that this is the best forum - thanks to a lot of friendly contributors (experienced and non experienced, some even internationally recognized legends).

Nice to meet you.

Thank you

Just wanted to say thank you to those who have taken the time to welcome me/us to this forum.

It is so good to find "our people" those with similar passions for the extraordinary.

If I can ever be a resource for anyone here, please do not hesitate to contact me either publicly or directly. I will do my best to share what I have learned and take in the collective knowledge of the community as well.

Appreciate y'all. ~ Eric

Great to see you too! Had no idea this existed which just goes to show how clueless I am. So glad Dan turned me onto it. ~ E

Congrats Hourless,

Don’t forget to preregister before entry into Nicaragua or expect extra delays at crossing. You can do this via the internet. Sorry I lost the website for this because I also have aCosta Rico passport and they don’t jack me up, but I’ve seen travelers who were at the entry hours before me, still there as I left.

Also a real time PCR test is currently required to enter.

US Embassy site for Honduras all facilities in Honduras to get your test. You will need to have it printed out. HMU (hit me up..my boys just taught me this internet abbreviation) when you get to Costa Rica.

Your more than welcome to camp out in our huge yard at the edge of the jungle. Enjoy your journey

Marty

PS. The San Pancho, Nicaragua crossing is much more peaceful when entering Costa Rica

Update from us!

Hi all,

As many of you know, internet can be hit or miss and I've not posted on the forums I normally frequent in a bit. We are on YouTube as Hourless Life and we try and update that as we can. But here is the update:

A couple of days ago we crossed from El Salvador to Honduras. We're just outside the ruins of Copan as of this writing. Tomorrow we plan to head to San Pedro and then up to Tela on the coast.

From there we'll make our way down towards the center of Honduras and eventually we'll attempt the crossing into Nicaragua at Los Manos.

We're good. El Salvador was amazing and it felt almost spookily safe everywhere we went. The government had declared a state of emergency and locked up a bunch of gang members. But the drives themselves were peaceful and the roads were amazing. Our last video talks about how astonishing it was to drive on the roads in El Salvador.

Yesterday we went to the ruins at Copan which were incredible in their detail and expanse.

Our son lost his first tooth in Honduras and the tooth fairy managed to find him all the way over here and he woke up to 50 Lempiras under his pillow.

That's about it. Hope all are well. I'll try and update as I'm able. ~ Eric
