UK Based Trucks - Forum Needed
 

Anybody fancy using this forum for UK based trucks until the Overlander is sorted? The '4 wheels' container hosts just about all we'd ever need - with this very sub-forum (Generic 4wd) perhaps being the most suited to cover the mods and developments relating to our various brands of base vehicle. I'd be reluctant to post too much in the brand specific tech sub-forum as stuff done with LDs is equally applicable in most cases to Zil / MAN / Merc etc.

Maybe the nice people at the HUBB could even be persuaded to create a sub forum for tech issues for overlanding vehicles over 5 tonnes if enough larger van / trucker types are interested.

Forgot to mention in the opener that though originally motorbike based the HUBB is a top place for detailed and up-to-date travel information and the UK show the HUBB organises in the UK tends to attract some very interesting speakers. The Dutch chaps from Expedition Truck Brokers also attended in 2012, as did a Bimobil dealer and a few other interesting tradies.

Would be nice if they could split small/large 4x4 tech, as they differ quite a bit. Other than that the HUBB is a perfect place for expedition truck talk.

I have to say that I am a bit miffed that we all put our hands in our pockets for no result.

I appreciate that we are all busy but maybe the suggestion that we all donate wasnt the right thing if it couldnt be fixed at that time.

Your "administrator" was merely just another user, albeit with moderator tools to hand but had no access to the inner working of his site either from the control panel or the server side of things, his web administrator vanished & has left him locked out with no clue as to how fix it.

It could so easily have been prevented as well with a simple spambot countermeasure at registration.

I have no doubt that Stan and Chris from the Overlander are decent sorts and I'm sure they did what they could to stay afloat. Sadly though, the whole website has been crumbling for some time and the spambots have now made the forum component utterly unusable.

Sad business and I hope the Overlander chaps can recover. In their shoes I'd personally return all the 'forum repair donation' cash sent in good faith by users. The implication was that they could recover the forum component in a timely fashion but it's actually deteriorated to the point that it's effectively useless.

What a shame about the Overlander. There is lots of useful information on here but not as good for the "chat" that used to go on.:clap:

I am using the same name as on the Overlander as it is the one mum and dad gave me and thus I can spell it!

Seems like I have a lot of "finding my way around" to do, seems like building the truck may be a bit easier than this new task.......

As for the demise of the Overlander, I do sympathise with them, having had my main website et al destroyed by these ba*****s, I am by no means a website guru, but I worked hard to create the original site only to have them destroy it out of pure greed!

Maybe we can arrange a team visit to them and break a finger or two, a very worthwhile trip I should say.

got it - sorry to hear about the apparent demise of the overlanders - just to be sure, is that www.theoverlander.org or www.uk-overlanders.co.uk/?

FWIW, I understand the spammer issue well and feel for them - we get hit about once or twice every minute by the scum, have been for years, but thus far our several layers of defence are working well - took a long time to get it really well sorted though. :(

Anyway, anything I can do to improve the 4 wheels section here on the HUBB, I'm happy to do so. Let me know what additional forums you need - you're the experts, so feel free to debate it and spell it out for me! :)

The uk has a steadily growing interest in larger overland trucks , european 12 ton style, which is what we mostly have.

We also enjoy exchanging ideas regarding the planning, building and technical aspects so i think it would be a uk truck forum thatcould include these elements.

We will confer for the best option

Hi and LD exhaust brackets
 

Hi all, thanks Steve for the email link.
heres an issue ive been working on after i found broken bolts holding my exhaust after a couple of months off road this summer, rough roads, but not as bad as some "A" classed roads in the UK!
LHD dafs have a long snake of exhaust pipe that runs right to left over the prop shaft. held by four bolts two to the PTO blank and two to the left of the bell housing. not man enough for the job in my opinion, so i have just remade it into a RHD exhaust with a better rear bracket to the PTO cover.
