Suspicious eMail from the hubb....
Today I recieved a suspicious "relpy to thread" eMail from the hubb.
I was told there was a new reply by "kangyu" to thread: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...46960-new-post yet there have been no new replies and no one named "kangyu." Also, In the "Here is the message that has just been posted:" text was inserted a number of links to a likely porn site: NY Escort http: # //www........##co##m ...so, I thought I'd let you know Grant. I had a strange fFox crash last night, but I'd be suprised if it could generate and eMail from the hubb. PM me if you'd like & I'll send the complete text if you'd like. Thanks, Neal |
Neal, I've had similar before, many moons ago. What it likely is is that a bot got through the registration process and dropped its message in that post, and a moderator spotted the bots activity and deleted their user account and posts.
In the mean time you got the e-mail reporting the initial post, clicked on the link in the e-mail to find the post, and it'd gone. It's one of the perks to being on a well-moderated forum, the mods and admins leap on bots very quickly. |

Thanks Chris,
I figured as much, but thought I should let you guys know "just in case." Amazing that the bot got past the "CAPTCHA" system. Keep up the good work. |
We ALWAYS appreciate it when people let us know instead of assuming "we know" or "someone else will do it" - because a. we don't know, and b. you ARE the "someone else"! :) So THANKS! :)
Re bots - nope, not bots - the scum hire people to register and post manually. Usually from India or Nigeria etc, but also USA and more - anyone willing to work cheap. We get a lot of them now, 5-10 a week. I try to keep an eye on the registrations, and if they can't even get "what bike do you have" right, they're banned immediately, but it's a lot of work and a lot slip by. thanks again, Grant |
