Sticky Specific Bike Threads
 

I hope this doesn't already exsist. The Hubb is a big place. :innocent:

What do you think of having specific threads for individual bikes (GS,XT,DR etc) in the relevant technical bike forums. These could be a sticky thread for easy location and include only....
Known problems
Reliabiltiy
Preperation advice
No bike comparisons

Explain to users that this is all we would like in the threads and no off topic information. Simply give us the facts about your bike. Can the moderators remove non relevant posts ?

I hope it will make information easier to obtain for people making choices. It may even kill the 'which bike' thread.

It's an interesting idea, IMO.

If you check the "bike tech" bit at the very bottom of the left of this page (out of sight and out of mind?) you will see some info about some bikes.

I agree with the basic sentiment of your post: there is much factual information which could be posted "once and for all" and then used as a reference for discussion, opinion statements and all the rest of it.
The HUBB would be the logical place for the latter and the main HU site the place for the factual stuff I suppose - in other posts it has been called, for instance, the "Wiki" of motorbikes. The obvious problem is that someone has to write the information in the first place and the second "issue" has arisen in other discussions in here: what to put in there - even facts can be disputed!
I think a further issue is the existance of bike specific webpages that already deal with this type of thing. e.g. The thread that you have referenced points to "the chain gang" which is usually, in my experience, considered to be the centre of the universe for all things to do with the bike in question (and there is no doubt that it is very good). On the other hand, Grant has said in other discussions of this, that he will not rely on other webpages that can arise and disappear all too easily.

In here there are communities for geographical areas of the world: maybe there needs to be more formalised communities for bikes in here? :rolleyes2:

NO doubt we need a good detailed listing with the good the bad and the ugly on all bikes of interest.

Plan is to have a wiki style page which can be edited and commented on. Anyone has any content ready to go please send it in - or add to this thread with a title, and I'll see it gets in.

I agree with Darren compleatly, every thing he says makes so much sense, have been getting more and more depressed over the months reading members to and throwing varying opinions on what they think of this bike or that, just so silly. All I want to know is the good and bad bits about the bike they have after an adveture and how it served them!

Lets cut the crap how can we take part when it's boged down trivia.
