Ineos Grenadier - is it a rehashed LR Defender?

Hi all

My first visit to this site since 2017 :(

Just saw this while looking for something else Inside the Ineos Grenadier: a practical and fashionable 4x4 workhorse without trying too hard
and (but pretty similar to the first) Ineos Grenadier's interior revealed - and it can be hosed clean

It looks incredibly like a re-released Defender with a jazzed-up engine and interior, doesn't it ?

Welcome back bier

It looks pretty similar in my eyes. Cute and with a lot of useful stuff like low gear and difflocks direct in stock configuration!

Did you see too the "replica" Defender in camel trophy style? Unfortunately the replica is not affordable... :cool4:

So let us hope to see the grenadier on the road soon!

Also pretty capable seems to be the indian G-Class styled Gurkha. But this will probably never seen the european union. But we can buy them in India and start travelling with indian numberplates and registration?

Thanks a lot, Surfy - 2 v. interesting links.
Certainly agree re the affordability of the "replica" Defender!
And yes, the Gurkha looks good.....when I first saw it I thought it WAS a remade (or whatever you call it) G-Class, as M-B have been assembling those overseas eg Algeria and because India has taken on production of old Merc designs for years eg Tata trucks. But no, I can see it's different.

For interest, here's a story about how JLR sued Ratcliffe for breach of trademark over the look of the Defender - and lost

I like the concept. I don't understand why MB vacated this market by not promoting the G Wagen Pur in the UK. Well I do. Why bother when you've got people queuing up to pay ridiculous money for the blinged up nonsense.
It does however prove that it's possible to build a utilitarian, (anti Chelsea tractor) vehicle that complies with present day emission and safety reg's. Whether it will be a commercial success is another question.

Given a clean sheet why on earth would you slavishly copy the Defender though? (Nationalist jingoism?)
But the underpinnings do have real pedigree and sound engineering. I'm guessing it will be north of £50k though :-( despite them saying it will start at £45k
Even if I had that lying around a hypocritical, tax dodger billionaire won't get any of my money.
