73 Bonneville Parts in China?
 

Hi,
I am planning to bring my 73 Bonneville 750 from Australia to China.

Does anyone know where I may be able to get parts or an old bike for spares here.

Do any other models fit the purpose if I get stuck.

Currently I don't need any but I intend to ride all over China, being a vintage bike, I may as well prepare for the inevitable.

I'd have to say its highly unlikely that there are any '73 Bonnie parts or bikes in China, though the best place to contact would be the Triumph owners club in the UK or the science museum in London as they have all the records for Triumphs and where bikes were exported to so should be able to let you know if any were exported to China. I'd keep spares to a minimum and see if any of the major courier companies have offices in China such as DHL or UPS and if so where they are so you can arrange to pick up stuff you need. From memory your bike runs an 18" rear tyre and 19" front, the rear should be easy to get but not sure about a front. I used to work for a company in the UK importing Chinese bikes and don't remember any with a 19" tyre.
I've worked on dozens of Bonnies but as long as yours is in good shape before you go it should be fine for the trip, if you have any further questions you think I may be able to help with email me.

I just baught a 73 bonnie I was wondering if you had an owners manual? If so maybe you could copy it and mail it or upload some how. you would be my hero if you could.

Also if you find parts please post the name and address of the distributer and I'll do the same. I'm getting mine street legal as we speak and might need to find parts soon.

If you've had the bike a while and ridden it ,you should have an idea of what bits need replacing and what wears out .
However, I imagine that your chances of finding a Triumph outlet in China are virtually nil .Maybe Hong Kong might, just might, be a place to look .
Local bike shops should be able to fix stuff like cables ,twistgrips .levers etc ,although they won't be original .
Lucas electrics ! Well if you don't know and understand points and coil ignition ,fit a Boyer and upgrade the charging system to solid state reg/rect.
I don't know about tyres but I imagine that 19" tyres are available [ what does the Chiang Jiang use ?] ,if not then import a spare or change rim to 18" .
Invest in a spoke set and spare brake shoes .
The Bonnie is a nice bike but you won't get a huge mileage out of it before it will need maintenance ,re valves/guides and possible rebore .
Invest in good aircleaner for engine longevity , not K&N . Check the compression ratio and the availabilty of good quality petrol of the right octane level .
[ NONE of my bikes run well on the crappy regular gas we get in Canada !!!!]
Ther are lots of dealers in UK,US,NZ and Australia who have parts to ship out to you but you should try to keep some on hand .
