Vladivostok to Japan DBS ferry

Hello,

I see there are ferries that can transport motorcycles as well. Just a quick question for transportation of the bike

The carnet I will have covers Japan. Is this all I need for customs for the motorcycle to get on the ferry and get off @ japan?

I have a US passport, since visa is on arrival according to state website. I shouldnt have any problems?

I have sent an email or two to yuri/link website for quote for transportation from Vlad to Seattle/Vancouver

Is it cheaper to sent the bike from Japan or Vlad from your experience

Thank you

Yeah I know I threw in things from different topics, maybe someone with experience can chime in!

Seems like I need to go to an JAF office once I arrive in Japan

best to fax over copies of my carnet before hand

I believe I still have to go to a physical JAF office to get paperwork from them and then find a motorcycle shop to get insurance for the bike

Since the DBS ferry takes me from VLAD to SAKAIMINATO, there is a JAF office nearby at Matsue which is about 30~40 km away. Seems like grab a taxi to go over there and hopefully a moto shop nearby for the insurance

Problems I see are: Will the ferry that transported my bike to japan leave it in customs bay awaiting for my paperwork? They know I have to go over to JAF and come back right? so they will wait?

also seems like the cost to take a bike under 500cc from vlad to japan is 500 dollars along with 1 way trip ticket for myself which is addtional 220 dollars I believe according to DBS Ferry website

I wonder if its best to just ship the bike from Vlad to Vancouver or Seattle and just hop on the ferry to japan and tour it by foot while the bike is slowly being shipped to north america

Thank you all

How much would the average price for the taxi fare be?(30~40 km 1 way)
How much would insurance from moto shop would be?(1 month I head is minimum so I will take 1 month quote if anyone has experience or knowledge)

Insurance is, I believe
5,260 yen for 1 month
5,540 yen for 2 months
5,820 yen for 3 months

Taxi from the port to JAF can run about 5 or 6,000 yen each way.
You may be able to get a train from the port to Matsue Station and take a taxi from there. Will be a bit cheaper.
Customs knows you have to go to JAF for paperwork. They won't send your bike back to Russia while you are gone.

Here is a reference that is only a few years old.

Thanks Chris

I am taking a different route now. instead of russia to japan

im shipping bike directly from us to japan port to start my tour from there

I have some question...

in motorcycleshop, most should have available tires for sale for dual sport bikes? like knobbies...mitas...Michelin..

or do they have to special order them?

Chris of Japan 7 Jul 2017 04:44

I would't count on motorcycle shops having a selection of knobbies on hand.
They would usually order them. Some parts/accessories shops would have a selection on hand. And there are tire specialty shops in larger cities like Tokyo that have tires in stock.

sorry to bother you again Chris

Is it still possible to get temp import papers for Japan so I dont have to get a Carnet

Thank you !!!

"Possible" (not guaranteed) to enter without a carnet it you come by FERRY.
Otherwise, you will most likely need a carnet.

Yes the C5014a form. And you can even ship out your vehicle while using the C5014a temporary import d3 claration. But vehicle must exit before the owner.
