Vancouver (or Northwestern US) to Magadan on ship
 

Has anyone else seen or heard anything about this? It seems there's a ship leaving Everett, WA and/or Vancouver, BC on the 2-4th of June, arriving in Magadan July 14th. Has anyone used this before or heard of anyone who has? If it could work, it would be pretty convenient since I'm in Whistler, which is really close to Vancouver! Since the bike would have to be on the ship more than a month before it arrives, it would be nice to be able to load it somewhere near where I am.

I'm in the planning stages of a trip starting in Magadan and arriving in Switzerland in time for the ski season (Oct-Nov). I plan on working in Switzerland for 6 months, give or take, and then leave in the spring and ride to London, fly to New York and then ride to Anchorage. Fortunately I already have the job lined up in Switzerland, which will be a nice break, and a chance to save up more money to finish the trip.

On paper, it looks interesting, in reality it may work out a whole lot different.

At the end of the day, most people shipping over go by air from west coast of North America and then ferry to Vlad, there are quite a few HU posts about how to do that. Reasons for this include greater control over timing on when the bike leaves and arrives and greater certainty over the customs clearance process.

I'm sure Fesco has a boat that gets to Magadan on or around the dates they indicate. Whether your bike gets there and you are able to clear customs is another question. For example, a couple of summers ago vehicles were unloaded in Vlad as that was where the customs clearance had to take place. Going through the clearance process and gettting back on a boat is a time consuming and costly process, and probably something most people would avoid unless they had a lot of time and enough patience to wade through the changing intricacies of Russian bureaucracy.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't even concider that the bike might have to clear customs in Vlad, that's a good point. Fesco has an office/branch in Vancouver, so I'll guess I'll call them and/or go in person next time I'm in the city.

I'd really like to avoid having to take my bike with me on the way to Magadan. I was hoping to do some not-on-a-bike travelling around south korea or japan (or wherever i end up before the ferry) before I start the trip. I guess there's always the option to have the bike stored for a week or two, though.
