US Visa questions

Hi
I have applied for a US Visa as my trip in the states later in the year will be longer than the 90 days allowed under the visa waiver.

However, I have a couple of questions that I am hoping someone here may be able to answer...

If I am granted the visa, do I still have to have a return ticket, or can I wait and get that when I am ready to go home from whereever that might be?

I have also put the start date on my visa application as I already have a flight out booked, but again if granted the visa, can I change that to bring it forward?

Cheers
GP

Assuming you are getting the 5 or 10-year B1/B2 visa that is good for 6 months at a time, no, you don't need any onwards ticket. We have been there 5 times, a couple of the trips including Canada and Alaska and each time with no onward ticket.

BTW Going into Canada or Mexico DOES NOT reset the 6 month clock.

The visa start date will be the issue date from the embassy so you should be able to enter any time after that.

If not B1/B2 then ignore all the above, especially as the conditions for your country (which is?) may be different.

Yes, it is a B1/B2 visa I have applied for flying from the UK. I will be travelling for about 4 months and coming back to the UK at then end.

I did clarify the bit about the return ticket and got an email back confirming it wasn't required.

However, the bloke behind the desk at the airport has absolute power and he can refuse entry or modify the entry conditions in anyway he wants without explanation or reason. I always have access to bank statements and credit card statements in carry-on luggage to prove I am financially OK plus something to prove we have a house back home. Also have to give a first night address so I use the storage yard or a nearby RV park.
