Uk bike from NZ to USA
 

I will be shipping my UK registered GS from New Zealand to San Francisco in December. I have a carnet but understand that the USA does not use the carnet system. Can anyone tell me what to expect with regards to customs, documentation etc when I get to San Fran and how long it is likely to take to get my hands on my bike. Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

I flew my bike from Heathrow to Newark in October last year.

I arrived three hours after my bike and rode it away the same day. Luckily I could walk to Customs from the agent{s warehouse.

I had a carnet but US Customs only looked at it out of curiosity and training purposes but wouldnt use it.

I used the AWB, original V5 & passport, (I also have my original bike invoice just in case).

They were very quick and helpful - it took about 20 minutes to do the temporary import form with which I collected my bike.

I suggest getting as much info before you leave NZ:

1 getting all addresses, contact numbers, names, office hours for US agent

2 address and distance Customs is from your freight agent. office hours.
