Transport of sccoters from Norway to Spain

We are three guys who will compete in the two week, 9300km African Enduro Rally, "Budapest to Bamako", on three classic Vespa scooters, in January/February 2012. All the planning so far seems to go pretty smooth, but we have so far also failed to find transport for our scooters.

We have failed to find someone who can transport our three Vespa scooters from Oslo, Norway, to the south of Spain in January 2012. We will also need to store the scooters safely until we can pick them up, anything from a couple of days to a few weeks (depending on how shipment arrival corresponds with the rally).

Any suggestions?

You may ship them to Seville or Malaga, both have international airports (more flights to Malaga) and are some 150 ks far from Algeciras, the main ferry station to cross to Africa. You may contact Vespasur (:: VESPASUR :: Tu tienda de motos) in Seville to store them. It's a local Vespa dealer and maybe they could help you. Or Vespa Málaga (Concesionario Oficial Vespa, Piaggio, Gilera, Derbi y Aprilia en Malaga.Vespamalaga.).

Bringing them, no idea, but you may try an "international movers" company (mudanzas internacionales in Spanish) to see if they can fit them in a truck bringing someone's belongings to Spain (let's say to his villa in Costa del Sol, right in Malaga).

Good luck,

Esteban

Thanks for this input - I'll definitely contact them if our freight company cannot store the scoots for us.

But, we have still come up short in finding a freight company that will take our scooters to Spain and/or from Africa back to Norway (conscidered "dangerous goods").

Any ideas please? Anyone? We are getting desperate...

We will be riding ours from the start line in Budapest, but as the time gets nearer I think you have the right idea - we reckon it will take about 20 hours to do the first stage to Genoa (feel a bit ill just thinking about it).

Have you tried to find anyone through the team info forum on the B2B site? Someone might be driving an aid truck back that could take your bikes, but I'm not sure what would happen during a border vehicle search if you weren't with them?

Yeah, there is an aid truck going back and even a guy called szityu or something similar that does help the motorcycle riders on the rally. Only problem is he is going back to budapest and we're going to oslo.. :)

Right now I'm looking at the possibility of taking the AutoZug (Train for cars and motorcycles) from Hamburg to Narbonne. But I think the timetable of that train puts us in Marocco the day after the rest of the rally.. We'll seize our pistons trying to catch up with the others!

Have you considered the road haulage option? If you tie the scooters on a pallet, or crate them, & ship them road freight may be cheaper & quicker. Don't know who the local companies in Norway would be, try searching web for 'groupage' - that way your load gets mixed with others to save the cost of the truck.

It may not get you all the way to southern Spain but may get you to Madrid or Valencia, & you could ride the last bit?

Don't know if this would work for your situation, just suggesting another option. Hope you get it sorted

Looks like we have managed to get deal with road transport from Oslo to Malaga in December. Good to have that sorted out..

Now, our next challenge is to get a container booked from Guinea-Bissau back to Oslo again.

We've been checking with some shipping agents and it seems Dakar is easier to ship from but that'll mean we have to go back up through Senegal and the Gambia.

Three scooters don't take much room in a container, so if anyone wants to share with us, they're welcome. :)
