transport inside the UE

If i were to buy a bike in Germany and the bike was in no condition to be riden to Portugal, what would be the best (faster and cheaper) way of getting it home?

Hi Pedro

I would check out the trains between Germany and Portugal to start with, since that would allow you to travel with your bike. If that isn't possible because the bike can't get to and from the train station, then contact a couple of shipping companies for a quote. I would start with Hellmann Worldwide Logistics (http://www.hellmann.net/english/index.shtml)or Panalpina (http://www.panalpina.com/). If they are too expensive then you can check local agents in Germany.

This link is to a directory of European transport companies, but please do your research before entrusting your bike to any company:

By the way, faster may not be cheapest, and cheapest may not be fast. Unfortunately, that's usually the tradeoff!

Belgian railroads are planning to stop with the trains on wich you can take you bike or car with you to France or Spain.

Too bad, makes the trip south a lot longer. I do think the German railroads still have trains to the south of France.
