Texas to Colombia
I am starting to plan our Big Trip from Mexico to Argentina and back. I am thinking about shipping from Texas to Colombia and avoiding crosing through Central America and The Darrien Gap twice.
Has anyone shipped from somewhere in Texas to Colombia by either ship or plane? We would like to ship sometime in early september. |
Garry, nice to read you're planning a trip, finally! ;-)
For us, the Darien Gap crossing (with the Stahlratte) was a highlight of the trip; we'd love to do it again! So perhaps it is not too bad ;-) Driving all the Central-American countries I wouldn't mind to skip, because it is not as spectacular. (even though we enjoyed it!) |
I looks like we will go to Panama and either take the Stahlratte or fly. We may end up doing both! I may go on the boat with the bike and Ivonne, who hates sailing, may go by plane. We´ll see what happens.

Garry you could put you bike on the SteelRat in Mexico and pick it up in Cartagena if you follow the ship's schedule here. They are doing a trip from Cuba to Mexico once or twice a year and then they head back down South to Colombia.

Texas too Chile via Darien Gap adventure
Or you could do what this guy did, which is what I may do. Some people call it a hassle, I call it part of the adventure. You gotta live like you're ready to die...lol.
I am in Panama now in Bocas del Toro, actually bluff beach..been here 2 months, but my visa expires june 4th 2013 and so does the vehicle permit, so I have to have my papers stamped in San Blas before that date...could be cutting it close. I sailed across the gulf and bought a honda cargo 150cc in Mexico brand new for $1500.00 had saddle bags made for it at a metal shop for $80.00 and rode here. Most amazing adventure of my life, and awesome little bike. I will be posting my Darien Gap crossing here asap, and on my website; Sailing from Texas to Mexico and motorcycling to Chile Paz, Daveed Amazing Adventure: Crossing the Darian Gap with a Motorbike | Ondrej Jurik Amazing Adventure: Crossing the Darian Gap with a Motorbike | Ondrej Jurik |
