South Africa and Spare Parts
I thought I had read somewhere that when shipping a vehicle to South Africa, they will tax all spare parts brought with the vehicle. Can anyone confirm this? If it's true, how to they value parts and what tax do they charge?

a) ask the horse... Tariff Possibly the local embasy may help.
b) secondhand parts are usually cheaper .. fit the new parts on the bike/whatever. Then if you really need to carry the extra weight ... |
I shipped some small parts such as oil filters, cables and other service parts packed with my bike and nobody cared as they were considered part of my personal possessions, but they might take a different view if you tried bringing a load of parts for commercial purposes.

Not many of anything, certainly not for commercial purposes. All parts will be spares for our Jeep only.

As far as I am aware that shouldn't be a problem. I think I described mine as personal affects and camping equipment along with the vehicle on the customs declaration.
