Shipping to Mexico from UK

Hello, any chance you know if any companies can ship my motorbike (suzuki intruder 800) from UK to Mexico and if yes, which ones and how much it cost?

Thanks
Mauro

Hi, I don't think there's any problem shipping the bike to Mexico (either Mexico City or Cancun). The issue is the customs clearance - it can take a long time and ideally you need to speak some reasonable Spanish. Motofreight can ship your bike to either airport. The only person I know who shipped there took 2 days to get the bike through customs. I'm no expert though so hopefully you can get some more advice from fellow HUBBers.

My secondhand understanding is that Mexico remains a difficult place to ship into. I've heard a few horror stories over the years. Like Suzie_32 I've had no direct experience.

Given the choice, I'd definitely ship into the USA and ride across the border. The US, unlike Mexico, tends to operate by rule of law, and stuff is imported constantly, everywhere. Discussions are conducted and documents are written in English, a huge advantage.

Still....hope you get some responses from those who've actually done what you propose. Afterward, please post your experiences here. Good luck!

This was my answer to Suzie 32 about custom procedure in Mexico,Cancun..

Custom procedures is very simple process at the airport it takes about one hour...cost is about 70 US.
Next what you haw to do is to drive to other side off town to Port authority office and pay temporary import deposit off 200 US in order to drive your bike in Mexico...it can be paid in cash or by credit card ....deposit is credited back when you live country.
Hope this helps PM if you need more info.

But she or he did not pay any respect for my answer but found a time to brag about how difficult is to release bike from custom at Cancun airport.
So to make clear....last year i use German company to airlift my bike on a pallet no box ...to Cancun and released from custom with no knowledge of Spanish at all.

Safe ride

Excellent! Glad to hear it. I'll add yours to my little mental stash of reports. If you haven't already, maybe you could add to the shipping database: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/node/add/shipping .

best,

Mark

Would you say this is a better option then shipping it to the states first because of there strict customs?

???

USA doesn't have "strict customs." Nor is it particularly difficult to do a temporary import there. Canada might be easier and/or cheaper, but Canada's a long way from the Mexican border.

Are you referring to something about USA visas being difficult or expensive?

I would expect Miami to be the cheapest shipping from Europe to North America

James Cargo would be my first choice and I would fly her to LA for less of a headache

How are you getting around town? I am guessing that Cancun would be the place to do this versus Mexico City for convenience sake, as I am sure getting across town in Mexico City would be a logistical nightmare!
