Shipping stuff with the bike...Argentina
I'll be shipping my crated R12GS into EZE late next month and doing a "personal importation", riding to Ushuaia and then north to Deadhorse. Am I at risk of paying duties, etc. on things in the crate that are not attached to the bike? I'd like to have my Jesse Luggage mostly full (clothes, spares, tools, and such) and keep my airline luggage to a minimum. I am expecting to use Dakar Moto to help me with the process, but any recent experience would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance... Eric Moto Americas |
Hi Eric,
I shipped all my gear with my moto, not a problem and believe me you are in very good hands with Dakar moto's.. You cant go wrong. enjoy Joe |
Shipping
The guys at Dakar are very helpful. Personally I only used them on the return leg as I organised my own shipping outbound, but I am sure they have plenty of experience bring in too.
In a few words: fly it, don't boat it. More reliable, more predictable price-wise and more convenient. Also, to get costs down, see if you can dismantle the bike at the craters. Small the bike is packed the cheaper. 20cm off the height, or 15cm of the length can make huge difference to your volumetric weight, on which the airfreight is calculated. |
