Shipping Requirements
 

We ship from NZ to USA on 20 April 2011. Fuel tank is expected to be "empty".

Other than turning my bike upside down and shaking it - can I empty it any other way than riding it around and around arriving at the place of crating it as it coughs to a stop!:confused1:

Do I have also to empty the oil? and Disconnect the battery?

If it has a fuel tap you can disconnect the hose and drain it into a jerry can. How empty it has to be depends on the company you are dealing with. It's best not to ask them too many questions like that, because it just gives them bad ideas!

If they ask if you have drained it you just say yes.

Be prepared to disconnect the battery, but don't ask.

You shouldn't have to drain the oil, as it's not very flammable.

Hi

i am a customs broker in Australia and we follow the same international export rules which are:

1/ you are allowed to have 1 litre of petrol left in tank..it doesnt have to be bone dry
2/ you must disconnect & tape the battery

Shipping/airlines are pretty strict on these rules as the tank is considered a flammable risk & the battery is considered a corrosive risk.

We were not asked to let the tyres down when we flew our bikes out of KL.

If asked to do that you should point to the max pressure indicated on the side of the tyre. You will probably already only have half of that, so that should be sufficient. You should also point out that tying down the bike onto flat tyres will destroy the tyres.

This crate came from Katmandu, 5 Lt gasoline in the tank.
Just battery connections were off.

ı think rules depend on how you act in the customs.No undertable money possible here.
As you see, we personally opened the crate in front of the customs ware house in İstanbul Atatürk Airport, connected the battery,seat and side bags.
(Mr.Matthew has done this to make the crate smaller)
