Paniers are boxes to fit you stuff in, usually left and right on the bike. Normally you can take them off, not at the Goldwing though.

The boat was safe, to get the bike on it is a different story.

"Dont forget do not ship to Jakarta or Dumai, or I guess your Bike will just maybe disapear..." Plus there is no Boat from Melakka anymore not even a passenger one, they stopped because flying is much cheaper, ... as far as I know but this can change every minute...

Indonesia was one of the best riding countries for us... unbeliveable scenery, people and the food too... dont miss it...

Sorry this is off-topic, but there was a Finnish dude, Jari, who did a very long RTW-trip on a Goldwing1500 about 20 years ago. He had a bad accident, when trying to enter or leave Indonesia, because the ferry (or whatever boat he was using), capsized and sank. Happened close to Dumai actually. Many people drowned, and he almost died, too, he was in a very bad shape, but then luckily was taken into a hospital in time.

He was quite well off financially, so when he got better, he went to Singapore, and hired some professional sea rescue crew, that actually managed to locate the sunken Goldwing in the sea, and lift it up from there! There was a legendary picture on a newspaper here, when they were pulling the bike back up from the water.

The whole operation, including the massive rebuild, that the bike required after being in seawater for a long time surely cost him many times the price of a Goldwing, but he did it, and I think he finally continued the trip with that same bike (ok, maybe only the frame was old.... but talk about not giving up, eh :rofl: ?!?)

Sounds to be in the ballpark, or actually quite good for such a big bike. I used MASkargo to airlift from Chennai to Bangkok 4,5 years ago... at least back then I read many good reports about them, my experience was also ok, and their pricing seemed very competitive. KL in general gets good feedback from travellers who freight to/from there.

Yes, and do not even need the crate: just a platform and a cloth covering the motorcycle (which I already have, the cloth).
It 's really easy: just deliver the bike (and pay, even credit card) at least 6 hours before.
Unfortunately the other flights are not so simple (from Australia and from Brazil).

If your timing is tight, you might wanna double-check that 6 hrs... Not saying it is certainly incorrect, but at least back then the cooldown-period was 24hrs (I had this both in India and in Indonesia). The newest IATA rulebook section on dangerous goods should be decisive. Freight agents are not always 100% up to date on everything.

Thanks, in fact I do not count the absolute knowing of 6 hours. I just know that I do not have to wait two days at the airport. Then a lot also depends on when the first cargo airplane (there are about every day, but at different times). :)
