Shipping motorbike from Sweden to Australia

Hi
Anyone can give me an answer?
Can I take my Ktm Adventure with me at my flight to Australia, and back, next year?
Or maybe it`s much better to buy one(similar bike then) down there?
I will stay there 3 to 6 month. And offcourse go for the outback too.
Any flightcompany operating from sweden?
Many thanks to all of you for this great source of biking tips.

Hi Jan

It will be less cost and less hassle to buy a bike in Australia and ride it while you're there. You should be able to sell it for a similar price to what you paid for it (depending on how much you beat it up off-road).

From the October e-zine:

Buying a bike in Australia, from Frank Warner:
"1) The 'Trading Post'- you can 'browse' a particular section - motorcycles over $2000 in Sydney OR search for a particular bike around the country... DR650 etc. - this should give you an idea of availability. These are real bikes really for sale. New issue every Thursday. http://www.tradingpost.com.au/

2) Industry reference to second hand prices... http://www.redbook.com.au/

3) One persons collection of second hand prices. http://www.ausmoto.com.au/used1.html

Best to buy and sell in the same state for money reasons."

On the other hand, if you already have a bike you like and it's set up for the kind of roads you want to travel, you can fly your own bike for approx. US$1,300 - $1,500 each way. See description below of a shipment by air from Brussells to Melbourne using Singapore Airlines.

As far as flights from Sweden to Australia go, I would start with SAS Cargo, Qantas Cargo, and then Singapore Airlines. If you would like someone else to handle the details, find an air cargo agent in Sweden and tell him what you want to do. We always contact the airlines directly, but it may take more time and phone calls than if you used an agent.

Good luck and safe travels!
