Shipping Motorbike from Indonesia to Australia?
Hi guys,
Have any of you information about shipping by boat (i.e: 'cheap') a motorbike from Indonesia to Darwin (Australia). I am at the moment in Jakarta, and 2 years overland on the road from Switzerland on a XT 550. But I don't have much shipping experience. Thank you very much for your help and website! Cheers, Gion (John) Paulin |
The people you need are Perkins Shipping Frances Bay Drive, Darwin, Australia.
phone 61 8 89822012 or fax 61 8 89410991 the contact person for them used to be Geoff Lock, email, geoff.lock@perkins.com.au but am not sure if he is still working there or not. But the company is reliable and cheap and lots of bikers have used them. Contact them and they will give you their Indonesian agents details. We have been home for 6 months now and why am I telling you this info so you can ship your bike. . . instead I should be shipping OURS somewhere. Am so so so very jealous!!!!!! Give us a call when you reach Australia. |

Thanks very much for your fast answer. Have still long time to orgonice the shipping. After Australia my trip also will be over, but I don't think to much about this. Cheers Gion (John) |
If you are going to Indonesia with the intention of shipping to Darwin go all the way & do it from Dili - East Timor. Islands like Flores are not to be missed & Timor has some lovely places too. Visa & Carnet on the border no prob's. Perkins have an agent in Dili (SDV Logistics) with a once weekly dili - darwin ship. I used them a month or so ago with no problems whatsoever. USD153.00 for the shipping. Then the fees at the Aussie side some AUD110.00 port, quarantine etc.
I've submitted a shipping report to Grant & Susan but I understand it takes some time before these things are put on the shipping page. Please contact me direct should you want further detail. Graeme |
