Shipping Malaysia to Turkey
Has anyone had any experience with shipping from Port Klang, Malaysia, to Istanbul, Turkey?
We need to get a bit closer to home, times running out! Regards, pooley, www.pooleglobaltrek.com |
checked out your website... what a cool trip!! We´re actually planning to take on the Americas next.
Sorry I havent got info on Pt.Klang... but if you plan to ship by sea from Malaysia to Turkey, it´ll probably take nearly a month, from the day, when you leave the bike to be packed, to the day, when you´ll back on two wheels. And if there are any changes of vessels along the way, it makes the probability of delays higher. We sent from Sydney to Helsinki by sea, and were told to expect it to take 42 days, which I had a bit of a hard time believing in the first place. The agent then contacted us just before this time was due, and informed us, that the cargo had missed a boat in Singapore, and therefore it has been re-routed, and will take almost 3 weeks (!) more to arrive. It then arrived at about that re-scheduled time, so the transport took about 60 days (not counting the days spent at the port in both ends, which would be some 5-6 more). With airfreight, such long delays are much more uncommon, even if it misses one flight, it can be put on the next plane and you dont have to wait for weeks. For us it wasnt a big deal, because Sydney was the end of our trip, and the bike was just coming home. |
Glad you like the site, we're feeling a bit burnt out after two and half years and 83000 miles, time to go home now! But we will ride the reverse through Iran, Pakistan and India in a couple of years time.
Thanks for the advise Pecha72 |
