Shipping car from Mongolia/Irkutsk to Moscow/Europe

Hi!

I've searched in this section, but didn't find a similar question, soo:

I've seen that it is possible to ship a bike from Irkutsk to Moscow by train, posted in the following thread:

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...580#post435739

I was wondering if the same is possible with a car? And if so, in which price range? The website of the company they used isn't too helpful.

Of course, it doesn't need to be specifically this train, so a more general question: Are there affordable ways of getting a car from Mongolia or nearby back to Europe? (Or Moscow, from which we'd drive)

Thanks!

Hi,

I took the trans-Siberian train with my motorbike in 2014 from Irkutsk to Moscow. I don't think it would be possible for a car to get into the cargo wagon... unless they have different coaches for very large freight or specific freight trains. The freight trains we saw were only for oil, from the look of them.

An idea, if you need to bring your car from Mongolia or Russia back to Europe, (but it is a long shot I must admit!) is to check with Chris from ADVFACTORY.COM.

We had our bikes transported back from Bishkek to London last September, with them.
Maybe Chris Sambor could help. In any case it is worth sending him an email or PM (he is known as SAMBOR in this forum). Note that he is currently touring in South America, so could take some time to get a reply. Very good guy, along with Ola, they are great people and I am sure they can advise you!
Good luck!

My friend in Irkutsk runs a 4x4 tour company and he plans on shipping the trucks to Moscow by train for the beginning of the trans-Russia trip. I asked him which company he would use and he said "haven't decided yet... there are plenty". He called these companies "heavy weight transporters". It also can't be that expensive or they would just drive them.

So no information except that it's definitely possible.

Thanks for the answers! 4500 euro is definitely too much for us, but I'll look into advfactory and google around a bit more. The lack of knowledge of Russian doesn't seem to help though :)

Container place (Irkutsk to Lithuania) for 1 car available

Hi,

We are driving a car to Mongolia from Europe. We booked a contrainer on a freight train from Irkutsk to Lithuania. We plan to arrive to Irkutsk around 20 Aug 2017.

We have only one car and there is enough place for two cars in the container. The costs (incl. customs handling, Talsy, etc) should be around 1150 Eur per vehicle. Please contact me in case you would like to ship your car as well and share the costs.

Kind regards,
Paulius

Hi,

FYI, we are Lithuanians, so we used Lithuanian Railways (Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai) to ship the car from Irkutsk to Vilnius. www litrail lt

We paid around 2.5k EUR for the container and only one car could fit in. Lithuanian Railways dealt with all the bureaucracies - we just left the car in an agreed secured parking place near Irkutsk and flew home. We did not find any cheaper alternatives at the time.

We left the car in October and it got delivered only in May. There were some coordination issues and once an empty container arrived. Anyway, this was not our problem :)

P.S. I've heard that some people parked their cars in a parking place in Irkutsk and simply flew back home. I am pretty sure you can't do this in Mongolia as the car owner is not allowed to leave the country. But we could all leave Russia with a paper that our car is parked in a parking lot. Not sure how viable/legal this option is, but might be worthwhile asking around :)

Enjoy the rally!

Kind regards,
Paulius

I'm sorry for resurrecting this thread, but it kept popping up on top while I was searching for the exact same thing a few years ago.

In the end, I've found a Russian company that transports cars across Russia way cheaper than any freight to Europe. The quote from Irkutsk to Sankt Petersburg in 2018 was around 650 EUR and the company is https://titantransauto.ru .

I've also written a blog post about how it all went, here: https://rtw.to/shipping-a-car-across...of-the-country

Is the transportation information still relevant? I need to transport a car from Irkutsk to St. Petersburg. I wonder how long it’s going to take and how much money I will have to pay. I have a Nissan Skyline I bought from Japan, and I want it near my house in St. Petersburg. I want the car to be absolutely safe because it’s a precious model that’s totally unique. I haven’t seen anything like this in my city before, and I want to be the first one with such a car.
I want it to be well documented and as sealed as possible for the locals not to try to see what’s inside.
